To help us with this challenge, we are looking for a Principal Advisor to join our Fixed Equipment team - Diesel Transition office, (DTO) within Global Procurement based in our Perth office.

The key focus of these roles is to drive excellence in portfolio and supplier relationship management as we continue our transformational journey of decarbonisation. You will do this by assisting with execution of strategy and enhancing strategic supplier relationships. You have a passion for end-to-end category management; commercial excellence; process improvement and supplier partnering as enablers to the Global Procurement priorities and strategic growth.

Working in a challenging and exciting environment within the Global Procurement team you will:
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and cross-functional working groups to design and deliver against DTO strategic priorities
  • Implement process improvements and automation initiatives to drive transactional efficiencies and improve end-user experience
  • Establish long term, sustainable relationships with key suppliers, based on innovation, sustainability, and mutual value creation
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to build strong relationships and establish alignment on category opportunities, risks and priorities using various tools including data analysis and insights
  • Drive alignment for Diesel Decarb initiatives (DDI) with the fixed equipment category through effective supplier partnerships
  • Lead and/or support negotiations with key suppliers to ensure maximum benefits to Rio Tinto Business Units
  • Influencing key stakeholders globally to enable the delivery of identified key DTO initiatives
  • Managing and accessing supplier DDI initiative performance to ensure adherence to contract / delivery obligations
  • Researching the market and updating the DTO to identify opportunities to enhance the program outcomes
  • Developing initiatives in line with the DTO objectives and implementing those initiatives to the benefit of Rio Tinto Business Units

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • Degree in either Business, Economics, Finance, Law or Engineering, or substantial industry experience in a similar role
  • A strong commercial mindset
  • Significant category / commercial management experience with proven abilities to develop and implement complex commercial strategies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to constructively influence
  • Transformation mindset with strong project management, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to balance multiple and competing priorities
  • A positive disposition that reflects a strong drive and ambition to succeed
  • Experience being part of a matrix organization, working with cross functional teams implementing supply chain solutions that have delivered demonstrated value to the organization
  • Experience in business development and in major projects within the mobile mining operations environment
  • Strong negotiation expertise
