Senior Mine Planner

Position Description:

The Senior Mine Planner is responsible for the long-term underground mine design and leading the planning department. Accountable for the Hemlo budget schedules the role will liaise with all mine function stakeholders to ensure the mining operations are planned, scheduled, and supported in a manner that maximizes the value of the resource while considering safety, business risk and creating a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:
  • Establish and maintain integrated mine planning, execution, reporting, and reconciliation systems to support delivery of quality plans through execution.
  • Responsible for delivery of the budget mine design and schedule
  • Drive the 3 monthly forecast and budget cycle including support of the mining cost models and improvement initiatives
  • Optimization of the lateral, vertical and stopes design for the 3 to 18 months plan
  • Initiate, manage, and oversee technical and operational projects
  • Planning of capital infrastructure including electrical, dewatering and material management systems
  • Assess alternate mining areas, methods or practises
  • Review upcoming exploration and grade control drilling requirements with Geology
  • Ensure geotechnical considerations are included in the stoping sequence and development schedule
  • Effectively promote, deploy, and comply with all Safety & Health and Environmental policies, standards, procedures and regulations within the Mine Technical Services Department
  • Management of the mine planning team to deliver operational requirements and personnel development including performance management, career development and succession planning
  • Fostering collaborative relationships throughout the organisation including but not limited to geology, metallurgy, maintenance and finance functions
  • Establish a culture of continuous improvement supported by effective measurement systems
  • Ensure mid-term mine plans are issued to all stakeholders in an accurate and timely manner
  • Assist with training and mentoring junior team members
  • Assist with updating mine planning procedures and standards


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mine Technician Diploma or relevant experience.
  • +5 years of Underground mining experience including experience in mid and long-range planning
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Engineering standards, with a technical expertise
  • Experience developing and training of Junior Engineers
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization, including executives.
  • Excellent time management and project management skills.
  • An inquisitive approach to understand and share learning
  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
  • Experience with a range of mining software
Desirable
  • Knowledge of Paste backfill systems
  • Strong underground drill and blast experience
  • Practical Underground experience
  • Relevant mining software expertise including (Deswik, Xeras, SAP)
