POSITION TITLE: Reliability Engineer (Vibration Analyst)

POSITION OVERVIEW

The goal of the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Group is to achieve higher equipment availability and lower maintenance costs through predictive maintenance (PdM) technologies. This goal is realized by regularly scheduled monitoring of equipment with predictive technologies and coordinating the necessary maintenance through teamwork with other maintenance and operations personnel, including but not limited to: supervision, planning, engineering, and field personnel.

This position requires travel to other facilities and interaction with vendors, contractors, and company personnel. All business must be conducted in a professional manner as a representative of ASARCO. This position requires a responsible, self-motivated person who can work efficiently with minimal supervision. This position requires working in confined spaces and tight corridors, as well as working closely around moving, rotating, electrically energized, and elevated equipment in a safe and efficient manner. The typical RCM work schedule is M-F, A‑shift and is setup and modified as needed to accommodate the most effective RCM for the equipment. The plant is a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week, 365 day/year operation; this position requires a person who is w illing and able to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, and both scheduled and unscheduled overtime .

The RCM Engineer monitors equipment ranging from the SX/EW, Concentrator, Crusher, Water System, and Mine Equipment (Shovels, Drills, Haulage).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Vibration data collection utilizing current technology (CSI)
  • Utilization of the current software to load, dump, and analyze vibration route data, as well as build and update the associated databases (AP sets, alarm sets, etc).
  • Report building and giving presentations utilizing various software programs
  • Daily planning, including but not limited to the Maintenance Standard Tasks (MSTs) and work orders utilizing the current Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Data collection, analysis and reporting utilizing the following technologies:
    • Infrared thermography
    • Tribology
    • Ultrasonics
    • Motor test equipment
    • Corona test equipment
  • Learn various RCM/PdM technologies, primarily vibration, ultrasonic sound and flaw detection, and the associated software with future development into additional technologies (achieving, at minimum, a Level II Certification in vibration(Emerson))
  • Support the RCM Program and its continual development
  • Educate other personnel in any area of the RCM Program
  • Communicate effectively to provide, receive, and implement constructive feedback to support the mentoring program.
  • Review, investigate, and develop appropriate recommendations regarding assigned Reliability Engineering projects.
  • Participate with Operations and Maintenance departments and other Engineering staff in problem solving efforts to improve safety, equipment reliability, and protection of the environment.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation for assigned projects are prepared and review documentation for accuracy.
  • Participate and/or conduct root cause analysis sessions upon equipment failure.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and engineering drawings & schematics.
  • Ability to understand and interpret nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) along with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must have good computer skills with MS Windows, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and knowledge of SAP a plus.
  • Safely acquire data from mine site equipment while in operation. Data may include: vibration, ultrasonic, infrared images, and oil sampling.
  • Perform other assigned duties as required.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of probability and statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Reliability Engineering.
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and/or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read plant, electrical, and equipment drawings.
  • Ability to write routine reports and maintenance records.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 6 years hands-on mechanical maintenance repair/rebuild experience with industrial equipment (pumps, motors, gearboxes, pulleys, etc.) that includes:
  • A working knowledge and understanding of basic principles of electricity and electrical components.
  • Journeyman level ability to read, understand and apply information from technical manuals and other reference materials.
  • Minimum of 1-year hands‑on experience with the current CSI 2140 Vibration Analyzer and associated software.
  • Ability to work in a team with a high regard for safety and environmental concerns and with a strong commitment to policies.
  • Effective written, verbal, and communication skills to satisfy training, safety, and electronic message transmission policies of the company.
  • Possess Level I vibration certification or obtain within 1 year of hire date
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Satisfactory performance record (for internal applicant).
  • General understanding of electrical codes and standards (NETA, NEC, IEEE, ISA, MSHA, etc.).

CRITERIA/CONDITIONS
  • Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles, and large mobile equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, walk over rough terrain, work in dusty/wet/cold/hot environments, talk, hear, and see.
  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English.
  • Willing to attend RCM technologies trainings.
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards.
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the workday.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves, and any other protective equipment as required.
