Procurement/Supply Chain Manager

Location: Columbus, MT

Position Summary

As a procurement manager, you will use your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for one's self and others, and effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Essential Responsibilities:

Oversee the day-to-day procurement functions including:

  • Develop Sourcing strategies for assigned components, materials, suppliers, and commodities relative to cost, quality, and fulfillment.
  • Manage capacity, PO allocation, supplier relationship, and fulfillment strategy in order to minimize delivery risks.
  • Use knowledge of forecast, projected needs, supplier capacity, inventory goals, and lead times in order to buy material promptly balancing cost, quality, and business needs. It is not always about the lowest total cost.
  • Meet regularly (scheduled and consistent) with higher risk suppliers to understand market impacts on supply chain, and product availability and provide feedback to operations so they can make educated plans.
  • Complete supplier evaluations and implementation of improvements for assigned commodities.
  • Empower, train and enable the team to perform at optimum capacity.
  • Develop a training program to upskill team members.
  • Provide audit requests, review segregation of duties, and assess risk.
  • Developing sound, cost-effective strategies for the purchasing of materials used in the business
  • Maintaining relationships with suppliers while continually scouting for additional vendors
  • Evaluating spending operations while seeking ways to improve and enhance the quality of products purchased and the timeliness of deliveries
  • Communicating with management regularly regarding the efficient flow of goods and services affecting production
  • Conducting cost analyses and setting benchmarks for improvement
  • Developing risk management procedures to mitigate losses in the event of product shortages
  • Supervising a purchasing team and delegating tasks across departments when necessary
  • Ensure that contracts and terms are favorable and cover a wide variety of procurement functions ranging from complex projects, and equipment to commodities.

This role will require ongoing, high-level engagement with engineering, planning, quality, and other operating departments to gain a clear understanding of project, operational, equipment, and long-term fulfillment strategy.

Qualifications:

  • BS in business operations, supply chain management, and/or finance.
  • Over 10 years of experience in the mining industry as a procurement agent.
  • Strong knowledge of asset management.
  • Proficient in contract creation, negotiations, and contract negotiations.
  • At least 7 years in leading and managing a team.
  • Proven track record of enforcing safety guidelines.
  • Possess an analytical and logical mindset and the ability to perform financial and mathematical projections about supply-related costs.
  • Ability to communicate and solid presentation skills.
  • Strong accounting, and freight understanding in how it relates to the procurement function.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 360 is a must.

Additional preferences:

  • Experience with enterprise resource planning programs.
  • Experience with environmental or green initiatives.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training.
  • Partner/attend meetings between operations and suppliers for critical supply chain deliverables.
  • Engagement with operating partners to understand how to measure and define scopes of work, meet with suppliers before onboarding to understand invoicing, responsibilities, points of contact, and establish rules of conduct (GNA conformance, safety environment, etc.).
  • MSHA or OSHA certifications are preferred.
