Job Summary:

Initially reporting to the Mine Manager, the Field Operations Supervisor is responsible for planning, supervision, execution, and reporting for site operating and site infrastructure sustaining activities. The incumbent will contribute as a senior member of the site operations team, providing supervision and on-site leadership on the Galore Creek project site, including the operations of two remote camps, road and bridge maintenance, mobile equipment maintenance, and supporting environmental and technical studies. The role is focused on ensuring the safe, efficient execution of operational projects, management of operational activities at the project site, and appropriate planning, budgeting, execution, safety management, contractor management, and reporting activities.

This position will be field-based from approximately April to October, and be office-based, with some Winter field program supervision during the Winter season. Field rotation is expected to be based on a 17 days in, 11 days out schedule inclusive of travel but may be subject to change based on evolving field planning schedules. This role is focused on earthworks and road construction activities and will require a significant amount of time in the field.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, leading by example and fostering a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the common values on health, safety, environment, and communities shared by shared by Teck and Newmont (the Partners). Lead tailgate safety meetings, safety audits, and support implementation and development of the safety program. Ensure the safe operation of all field programs and site operations, and at all times hold the safety of employees, contracts and consultants as our highest priority.
  • Contribute as a senior member of the site operations team, providing leadership and on-site supervision including managing site-based contracts, supervision of heavy equipment operators, camp support services personnel, mechanics and labourers, while supporting environmental and technical studies including drilling, field surveys and engineering.
  • Manage operational projects from inception to completion. Ensure the safe and efficient operation of two or more remove camps, road and bridge maintenance, mobile equipment maintenance, supporting environmental and technical studies, and potential for significant earthworks in future years. Maintain and develop project assets, and develop multi-year plans for sustaining site assets.
  • Support the design, budgeting, planning, and contracting for field programs in close collaboration with other members of the Project Team. Working closely with the Project Controls group, oversee procurement of goods and services for the Project Site.
  • Contribute to project reporting, tracking, and inspection activities, including weekly reporting, digital tracking of project assets, planning and coordinating inspections for camps, mobile equipment, roads and bridges, and year-end reporting.
  • Ensure that field operations adhere to permit obligations, legal requirements, and GCMC policies and procedures regarding health and safety, environmental protection, staffing and labour. Working closely with the Manager, Field Operations, ensure appropriate and effective site security measures are in place, and communications systems are effective in supporting communications across the project site, and off-site.
  • Promote the company’s commitment to sustainability, the environment and health and safety; lead by example, and demonstrate honesty, sincerity, and openness to feedback. Foster a culture of open communication, build relationships across the GCMC organization and externally.

Accountabilities:
  • Degree in geoscience, engineering, forestry, environmental sciences, or related field from an accredited curriculum likely required, although may not be required for candidates with exceptional relevant experience.
  • Post-secondary education, including applied scientist or technologist training in a relevant field, is likely required, although may not be required for candidates with exceptional relevant experience.
  • Affiliation with professional organization (R. P. Bio, P. Geo., P. Eng. RPF) is desired.
  • 8 or more years of operational experience, including experience with supervision of crews, preferably in mining, forestry, or construction.
  • Strong leadership, management and team building skills; ability to support employees, and ensure a safe, healthy, inclusive workforce. Enthusiasm to lead diverse multidisciplinary teams in delivering on a broad range of project objectives in a remote camp setting.
  • Experience with development and implementation of safety programs and initiatives.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a complex and dynamic environment, both independently and with a diverse multidisciplinary team, building and strengthening relationships within the team, and with Indigenous Peoples, regulators, consultants, service providers, and COIs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required, including the ability to present information to a variety of audiences, and write clear and concise reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Experience working with ArcGIS software such as Collector.
  • Experience in operating mobile equipment or directly supervising operators.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license non restricted.
  • Ability to work in remote terrain, uneven surfaces, and all-weather conditions. Ability to lift 50lbs.
