The Opportunity:

A fantastic opportunity has become available at Newmont, in the role of Director, Long Term Planning for the Australia and Africa Region of our organisation. Reporting to the Global Executive, Mine Engineering and Governance, this position is highly varied and dynamic, located in Perth, Australia working in a hybrid capacity, allowing for great flexibility.

The Role:

This Senior Leadership role, will have a direct impact on the delivery of the Long Term Planning (LTP) for the mine sites in Australia and Africa. You will be laying the foundation of the life of mine, 5-year and budget plans that the regions are required to execute upon. In the capacity of this position, relationships are critical as you will play a significant role advising and supporting our Regional Vice Presidents, the Regional Leadership Teams and the General Managers of the Australian and African regions to ensure we address headwinds and risks as well as continue to enhance the LTP function, it's performance and the quality of mine engineering and planning. In addition to the technical prowess required for this role, mentoring and coaching of our mine engineering functions is key.

The Essential Duties:
  • You will be responsible for developing, managing and optimizing the operating and capital budget of the corporate LTP function. This will include forecasting costs and monitoring expenditure to ensure cost control
  • Contributing to operational excellence, you will be accountable for multiple priorities inclusive of the identification and generation of high value strategic and LTP options, Business Plan physical outputs, mine engineering tools and software enhancements. This will also include setting long term plan targets and improvements.
  • People are our greatest asset and you will be responsible for leading a high performing and diverse LTP team, ensuring the provision of technical knowledge, ongoing development through mentoring and coaching and succession planning for a strong talent pipeline of mining engineers.
  • With significant contributions to the continued growth of our organisation, an essential accountability is the annual Reserves and Resources generation for the Australia and Africa regions and direct delivery of mine engineering outputs. In this varied position, you will have direct contact working closely with the Global Studies, Mine Engineering, Governance and supporting groups to incorporate new studies and projects into the planning cycle.


About You:

With your seasoned knowledge of mine methods, mine design, production scheduling, equipment selection and the like, you will be set up for success. Your experience in senior mine management roles is evident in your working history and you demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of open pit or UG sites, including substantial experience in hard rock Gold / Copper-Gold operations. You possess strong communication skills both of the verbal and written variety, ensuring that technical reporting, presentations and robust conversations with a broad and diverse audience are articulated well. With your extensive leadership skills, you will demonstrate confidence in leading a dynamic team who are clear on their performance expectations.
