Dimensions

Job involves close coordination with the maintenance planner/scheduler, mill front line supervisors, and warehousing, to ensure all maintenance and production goals are achieved.

Purpose

To organize, co-ordinate and direct maintenance activities, ensuring that the work is performed in the safest and most cost-effectivemanner by managing all resources towards complying to the maintenance schedules with the least negative impact on the production plan.
  • Ensure the maintenance area & equipment operates according to company, federal, provincial and municipal standards.
  • Ensure individual employee safety concerns are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance to the 5-pt safety systems, safety meetings, workplace audits, and Internal Responsibility System (IRS).


Essential Duties

Managing Subordinates
  • Ensure that hourly employees have the tools and systems in place so work can be performed safely and efficiently.
  • Guide and coach individuals towards reaching personal and company goals. (Career development). Identify opportunities for improvements (training, tools, etc.) and implement corrective actions.
  • Complete performance reviews as required on all direct reports in a timely and professional manner, develop action plans, and follow up throughout the year.


Promote Safety
  • Promote and adhere to Newmont's and Porcupine Gold Mines' environmental and sustainability polices.
  • Promote the values of Fatality Risk Management in the work place, ensuring employees receive feedback on safety issues, performance (leading and lagging indicators), improvements and acknowledgments.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with external agencies (i.e. MOL, MOE, WSN,).
  • Promote the principles of ownership and accountability to the maintenance personnel.
  • Lead by example, provide guidance and motivate people to work safely
  • Ensure PGM's safety initiatives are implemented and followed. These include Daily huddles, 5-pt safety system, JTO's (Job Task Observations), safety meetings, CCV's (Critical Control Verifications), etc.


Strategic Planning
  • Promote and build a positive & co-operative working relationship with all departments, keeping safety, production and costs as primary elements to meet the mine plan.
  • Promote safety, PM compliance, equipment availability and cost control.


Leadership Requirements
  • Interacts with Maintenance Superintendent, Maintenance General Foreperson, Maintenance Planner, Operations Superintendent, Operations General Foreperson, Operations Shift Supervisors, Safety Coordinators, Trainers, and Administration.
  • Responsible for all maintenance work for the Mill/Crusher equipment including reviewing completed work, providing direction, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and assessing performance.
  • Managing8 to 20 millwrights, plumbing and heating as well as heavy equipment operators.


Training & Experience

Certifications or Equivalents
  • Certified trade's person or a holder of a Maintenance Technician/Technologist Certificate with work experiences.


Working Experience
  • 5 - 10 years of Mill/Crusher equipment maintenance related experience.


Leadership Experience
  • Combination of 10 years' experience as a certified trade's person including some temporary supervisory/lead hand experience.


Other Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to interpret mechanical, structural & hydraulic schematics and offer sound technical expertise with regards to maintenance issues.
  • A strong working knowledge of stationary equipment, maintenance procedures and legislative requirements as it relates to mining equipment and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead others.


Working Conditions

  • This is a site based position located in Timmins, ON
  • Mill schedule is 5x5x4 rotation days. (May require nights at times)
