Senior Electrical Engineer

Summary:

Researches, develops, designs and tests electrical, instrumentation, network and process control components, equipment and systems. Provides electrical technical assistance and trouble-shooting expertise. Serves as plant energy manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides electrical, network and instrumentation/control expertise to engineering and maintenance projects.

Provides electrical, MIS, PCL/DCS, instrumentation and database management and software solutions as necessary to improve process control performance, reduce energy consumption, measure and monitor energy performance, and design processes and systems taking advantage of regulatory grants and opportunities.

Has competent knowledge of high voltage electrical generation and distribution, switches, transformers, circuits and applications.

Reconciles plant energy bills with finance; evaluates trends and nominates energy usage.

Responsible for the oversight of the Maintenance E&I function to ensure compliance to applicable codes, coordination of electrical distribution, changes and loads, and compatibility of electrical control components, network and process communications and control equipment.

Responsible for the overall plant electrical and control network, components, databases, and software design, modifications, improvements and maintenance.

Inspects, evaluates, designs, and recommends repairs and improvements associated with power generation, distribution, protection, loading and control. Designs and implements software programming and hardware improvements in electrical, instrumentation, computer control, and networking, and general electrical management of facility.

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, and systems. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for industrial purposes. Develops specifications and applications for controls, instruments, and systems for industrial use.

Ensures that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operations testing activities conform to functional specifications, safety requirements, distribution design, and projected costs. Directs and coordinates operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems in field installations. Prepares recommendations for long-term electrical, network, database, and software support necessary to maintain and expand production and facility capabilities.

Reconciles and manages energy consumption billing.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must possess thorough understanding and knowledge of electrical engineering principles, codes, practices and regulations. Must be knowledgeable of computer, DCS/PLC, database design and maintenance, communication compatibility, software, hardware, and instrumentation requirements. Must be knowledgeable of energy tariffs, plant energy consumption requirements, and unit operation energy control and measurement technologies and operating philosophies. Must have understanding of energy demand necessary to evaluate and reconcile energy billing and nominations. Must have understanding of Greenhouse Gas regulations, cycle life calculations and energy sustainability strategy of The Company. Must be analytical and detail oriented and possess the ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects or phases of a project simultaneously. Must also possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment and involve others in a team approach. Must be fluent in National Electric code, PLC/DCS control hardware and software, electrical distribution and control.

Education and/or Experience:

Must possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering. Minimum of 5 years of relevance experience. Must have knowledge of power systems protection and high voltage power systems, which may be gained through course work, training, and/or experience.
