SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

The Operations Accountant performs a wide range of operations accounting duties in accordance with established corporate accounting policies and in compliance with GAAP/IFRS. Works closely with other members of the finance department and mine operating departments to ensure accuracy and budgetary parameters remain within guidelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DUTIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

•All employees are accountable for the safety of themselves as well as that of their coworkers.

•Prepare month end journal entries, account reconciliations, prepare and distribute interim, monthly and Year to Date business reports.

•Assist in cash forecasting and banking.

•Work directly with the Mine Operational Departments in identifying and analyzing costs.

•Assist in the preparation and development of financial and job cost analysis reports.

•Develop and maintain accounting policy guidelines, procedures, and internal control documents.

•Maintain an accurate general ledger, perform fixed asset and inventory balancing, sub-ledger and general ledger troubleshooting.

•Review and advise on AFE submissions as appropriate.

•Assist managing capital and fixed assets on the balance sheet.

•Assist with compliance and auditing.

•Have a customer service focus.

•Assist with internal auditing.

•Other accounting duties as deemed necessary by controller.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Previous Work Experience Required:
At least one year in an equivalent position, preferably in the mining industry. A working knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, fixed assets, production, and general mine operations accounting procedures.

Education Required:
College degree in accounting/finance is preferred.

Special Skills and/or Knowledge Required:
Working knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and mining industries accounting policies, procedures, and practices is desirable. Ability to meet deadlines and work with minimum supervision.

Special Equipment/Computer Knowledge Required:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Ability to operate related hand held calculators and related experience in report development in ERP class systems (JDEdwards, Essbase, GL Inquiry) would be considered an asset.
