Wood is currently seeking a Civil Designer (Intermediate / Senior) to join our Mining & Minerals team in Oakville, Ontario who will apply knowledge of civil design and drafting principles and practices to the organization's products and services. The designer will plan, schedule and conduct broad and/or technically complex engineering assignments requiring judgment, independent evaluation, selection and significant adaptation and deviation from standard techniques and procedures.

Wood is currently seeking a Civil Designer (Intermediate / Senior) to join our Mining & Minerals team in Oakville, Ontario who will apply knowledge of civil design and drafting principles and practices to the organization's products and services. The designer will plan, schedule and conduct broad and/or technically complex engineering assignments requiring judgment, independent evaluation, selection and significant adaptation and deviation from standard techniques and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Design civil earthworks (including general grading, ponds, drainage, plant roads, haul roads, mill pads, rail spurs , etc.
- Design underground utilities (including fire water, potable water, force mains, sanitary sewer for mine and heavy industrial facilities)
- Design surface run facilities including pipelines
- Preparing cost-effective site layouts for industrial and mining facilities including services and utilities, based on project specifications and requirements
- Processing the topographic data (from LiDAR, satellite, ground surveys, etc.) for use on the projects, and georeferencing the survey data
- Preparing drawings for site development and earthworks including site preparation, general grading, final grading and surface drainage, ditches, ponds, roads, embankments, and rail spurs using AutoCAD, MicroStation and Civil 3D programs, in accordance with project CAD standards
- Analyzing design issues and recommending corrective actions
- Preparing material take-offs
- Reviewing and coordinating project documents prior to issue for scope and presentation against project standards and specifications
- Responding to information requests from site and completing project documentation including as-builts, calculations and return of data to the client
- Managing time and tasks within allotted time-lines and budgets
- Performing design changes and improvements according to changing project demands
Skills / Qualifications
- Graduate of a technical college with 5+ years of relevant design experience relating to industrial facilities, mining, infrastructure, commercial building infrastructure and utilities and specifically earthworks and underground experience
- Strong 2D & 3D skills. Civil 3D, AutoCAD design experience is a must.
- Must be able to work well within a team environment.
- Must be able to demonstrate effective organizational skills.
- Knowledge of and experience with mining and power projects is an asset
- Understanding various coordinate systems and geodetic elevation references
- Must be legally able to work in Canada at time of application
