Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Tailings Engineer in Training.Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role.

Rotation schedule will be 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site.

Reporting to theTeam Leader, Tailings & Water.

Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Protect the safety and health of employees by promoting safe working procedures and health programs in accordance with Teck Alaska policy and appropriate regulations
  • Complete assigned work in a professional manner including necessary measurements, calculations, analysis, interpretation, reporting, and recommendations
  • Provide technical and administrative support to the Engineering, Construction, and Operations groups to support overall Team objectives
  • Performsurveillance via routine and event-driven inspections to confirm dam structures are performance satisfactory.
  • Deployment and troubleshooting of geotechnical monitoring equipment and software including (but not limited to):
    • Vibrating Wire Piezometers
    • Inclinometers
    • Thermistors
    • Turbidity Sensor
    • Survey Monuments
  • Aggregating, organizing, managing, and analyzing data on various dam instrumentation (piezometers, thermistors, inclinometers), groundwater, surface water, subsurface water, pumping rates, climate, demographics,typically in database environment
  • Communicate effectively using data manipulation/analysis in spreadsheets and databases utilizing automation techniques such as macros, VBA
  • Support administrative tasks, gathering and processing of data collected using drone technology, gathering and process of data for construction such as costs and scope changes
  • Effectively communicate with operating, geology, technical groups and contractors; and liaise with outside agencies to meet Red Dog Operation’s overall objectives
  • Technical writing for operations and project documents, manuals and training programs, as well as technical review of various reports from external consultants
  • Support advancement of advanced technology and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develop an understanding of the Company’s organization and accomplish both group and individual goals
  • Other responsibilities as required or as assigned


Qualifications:
  • BSc. Engineering in Mining, Civil, Geotechnical, Geologic, or related field
  • Zero (0) to three (3) years in mining industry
  • Geotechnical or tailings experience is an asset
  • Experience and use of AutoCAD Civil 3D Software or ArCGIS is required
  • Knowledge of geotechnical software (GeoExplorer) and Trimble software is an asset
  • Experience and knowledge of using advanced analytics tools such as Power BI
  • Superior interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly spreadsheets, word processing, presentation and drafting applications
  • Ability to communicate and implement recommendations to the Tailings & Water team related to management
  • Willingness and ability to take on additional tasks as needed
  • Capable of working with all levels of the organization and in a team environment
