*Starting Salary of $165K (annually) D.O.E.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The purpose of the Senior Safety Manager is to direct and guide the development, implementation, and maintenance of Health and Safety systems and processes. The incumbent will be responsible for the identification, analysis, quantification, and management of operational risks and threats for the entire US PGM segment to ensure accurate and timeous data and information and provide for pro-active management/mitigation of potential risks and financial losses through leadership of the safety function. The role is accountable for the execution of group health and safety standards and initiatives.

The successful individual must possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to perform effectively at all levels of the organization while growing the skills necessary for future opportunities. An expectation of the role is to provide strategic focus in all areas to ensure US Segment Safety efforts drive toward the three strategic pillars of the Safety Strategy (Enabled Environment, Empowered People, Fit for Purpose Systems). The incumbent will curate, implement, and manage the culture, vision, and values for Health, Safety, and Risk Management by ensuring alignment with the organization's vision and values. Reporting to the SVP, Chief Operating Officer of the US PGM Segment, this individual will be primarily based in Columbus, MT with the expectation that time will be spent each week working at the operational sites. QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent and/or a minimum of 7 years of relevant working experience in a related role, of which 3 years should have been at a safety manager level.
  • Leadership qualities including character, teamwork, communication, business sense, and vision
  • Experience demonstrating direct responsibility for the safety department in terms of planning and allocation of skills and capacity to ensure delivery of safety objectives
  • Demonstrated experience relating to the review, design, development, and implementation of Health, Safety, and Risk management systems ensuring adherence to internal controls and the application of related governance mechanisms
  • Experience setting and managing the Health and Safety budget in line with business requirements and financial objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with multiple departments and facilities
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and plan activities in a professional and expedient manner
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Risk Management principles and mitigation practices and principles
  • Exposure to the practical application of ICMM critical control management
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and make data-driven decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, helping to balance priorities
  • Working knowledge of applicable HSE legislation and regulations
  • Ability to conceptualize the impact of single decisions on the holistic environment & anticipate the cross-functional impacts
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office products
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Project management and good report writing skills are essential
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
  • Safety Experience in underground mining and large, diverse mining operations with multiple mines, shafts, extensive surface area, and processing/metallurgical plants
  • Experience using SharePoint
  • Experience working with and interpreting Safety statistics using a safety database
  • Certificate in ISO 14001, 9001 and 45001
  • Knowledge of quality management systems i.e. Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, etc.
  • Experience working in a union environment
