Underground Service Locators (USL) is a leading specialist company in the field of underground cable locating. We provide comprehensive location service for Telecommunications plant, power, gas, water and private cable networks nationwide. Our customers nationwide include major utility companies, councils, and contractors.

About the role:

Due to growth and opportunities to further expand our business, we currently have an opening in the Manawatu area for an Underground Locator Technician to join our great team. You will work with the latest technology supporting our customers locating utilities, mapping underground utilities, interpreting plans, and managing customer relationships.

The role will support other USL team members with the planning, delivery, and documentation of mapping services. Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
  • To work within the parameters relevant to the work, e.g. time, materials, costs, resources.
  • To ensure a positive relationship with customers.
  • To work within, and assist with, risk and event management and mitigation guidelines.
  • To provide technical support, where appropriate.
  • To assist in service/delivery improvements where requested.
  • Champion USL Utility Mapping services with the wider USL team.

This is a full-time (40 hours a week) permanent role. The role is paying between $65,000 - $75,000+, experience dependant.

About you:

To be successful you should ideally have:
  • NZQA L3 Telecommunications qualifications, or similar, or minimum 3 years relevant experience
  • Previous telecommunications or utilities industry experience
  • Experience with GPR cable/pipe location
  • Good understanding of utility network architecture
  • A willingness to learn and develop basic survey and Arc GIS skills
  • Full New Zealand driver's license
  • Physically fit
  • Self-starter with an eye for detail and planning your work effectively
  • Great communication skills
