Mining Engineer

SRK Consulting is an employee-owned, independent, international consulting practice, providing integrated consulting services to the international resource sector. The role will involve working closely with other specialists within SRK Consulting, particularly the open pit mining team.

SRK Consulting is seeking open pit mining engineers to join the Perth based team, offering a variety of working arrangements (including full-time staff, casual contract, Associate roles) pending individual's desires, skills and experience, and our clients needs.

Currently SRK is seeking experienced industry professionals to fulfill the following opportunities with our clients:
  • Mining engineers interested in secondment/ contract opportunities to be imbedded within our clients' teams.
  • Open pit and waste rock rehabilitation design experts.
  • Mine project management and operations readiness, with exposure to autonomous mining fleet.

Qualifications

A recognised degree in mine surveying, mining engineering, and/ or appropriate experience in related industry roles.

Competencies
  • Independent and self-motivated.
  • Willingness to work from SRK's West Perth office, our clients centralised offices, and/ or our clients mine sites.
  • Good communication skills allowing you to easily communicate complex concepts.
  • Desire to exceed client expectations.

Description of Responsibilities

Pending the role, the successful candidates will deliver either contracting or consulting services for open cut mining projects and operations. You will actively collaborate with colleagues and client contacts and will be based within the SRK West Perth Office, within our clients centralised offices or on the clients' sites.

Some of the current opportunities are available for immediate start.

Essential Requirements

We have opportunities for candidates with experience ranging from 2 or more years, dependent on current client requirements. Ideally you will have significant open cut experience with relevant exposure to projects in the Australian mining industry, either in operations or a similar consultancy role.

At a minimum, the role requires an appropriate current working visa or residency, no other options will be considered.

The Role

In addition to market leading consulting services, SRK offers contracts to provide mining professionals for full-time specialist roles within our clients' teams over medium and longer-term contracts.

SRK has multiple contract opportunities requiring a broad range of open cut mining engineering skill sets and experience, from graduate-level aid to highly experienced senior staff.

Roles regularly change, but current roles available are as follows:

Role 1: Major mining company - Open Pit Nickel
  • The work would be based in the clients office in Perth CBD.
  • Looking for a Senior mining engineer level person with 5 to 10 years' experience
  • Working on open pit growth expansion projects.
  • The work involves open pit optimisation, design and scheduling
  • There is also a component of strategic sequencing of the open pits.
  • Term of work is 12 months with the option to extend.
  • Start time is immediate

Role 2: Iron ore major
  • The work would be based in the client's office in Perth CBD.
  • Strong mine design skill set required.
  • Mining software skills in most packages is fine, but the client preference is Vulcan.
  • The role involves modifying mine designs to suit strategic planning and incorporating innovative mining technologies.
  • The start date is early Aug.
  • Contract duration is 3 months with an option to extend.

Role 3: Iron ore major
  • The work would be based in the client office in Perth CBD
  • Seeking mining engineers with skills in the Datamine Open Pit Studio and Design standard experience and / or Hexagon Mine Planner and Long Term mine plan scenario experience.
  • The start date and contract duration is not set but likely to be immediate start and minimum 2 month engagement.

Role 4: Consulting role
  • The work would be based in the SRK office in West Perth
  • Mine planning skills required, in particular experience in mine production scheduling and mine design. All experience levels will be considered.
  • The start date is immediate.
  • Flexibility in either a full time position or initial contract role with an option to extend.

To be considered for the roles, you will possess:
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, or appropriate experience in Mining Engineering.
  • The ability to work in Perth, Australia
