About the role

South32 is currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated Exploration Geologist to join the Mining Services Exploration team at IMC's Cordeaux mine based in Wollongong, New South Wales.

Reporting to the Exploration Supervisor you will work closely with the site technical services and mine operations teams helping to understand the geological and geotechnical environment for Appin and Dendrobium Mines through the acquisition, quality assurance, interpretation, and processing of a range of geological data.

Key responsibilities of the role include

• Ensure safe operations of exploration fieldwork in accordance with the relevant legislation, standards and operating procedures
• Geological data collection, interpretation, quality control and processing within the Geobank database system
• Maintain an accurate and current geological database and conduct depth adjustment as required
• Provide day-to-day leadership, expertise and direction to contract partners
• Conduct safety observations and site audits, while promoting a culture of continuous improvement
• Produce technical reports of geological and geotechnical data to relevant internal and external stakeholders
• Coordinate geotechnical, petrographic and coal quality sampling
• Geotechnical and geological logging of non-coal cuttings, non-coal core and coal core in digital format (Geobank)

You should also possess:

• Tertiary qualifications in Geology, or similar
• A commitment to ensuring everyone goes home safe and well everyday
• A minimum of 3 years previous experience working as a Exploration Geologist
• Sound computer literacy skills and proficiency in geological / geotechnical databases
• Excellent communication skills
