Job Description:

Summary:

The person in this position will work on landscape architectural and native plant community restoration projects, such as innovative storm water treatment system design, park design, trails, vegetation surveys, and natural resource management planning. Project work will integrate sustainable landscape and ecological design principles with traditional landscape architecture.

The successful candidate will assist Barr's landscape architects, civil engineers, and natural resources group with a variety of ecologically oriented design and planning projects. The work will involve assisting with the production of construction plans, construction observation, technical writing, restoration management plans, and graphics. The work will also include the production of detailed cost estimates and technical specifications related to the designs. The position offers an opportunity to contribute and learn as part of a progressive and innovative design team providing landscape architecture, landscape ecology, climate adaptation, environmental engineering, and natural resources planning services to our clients.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, Bachelor of Science in Horticulture or Natural Resources, or other related degrees from an accredited program
  • Professional experience in landscape design
  • Experience in drafting landscape construction plans including grading, planting plans, sections, and detailing
  • Experience writing technical specifications
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Experience in creating detailed and attractive renderings, section/elevations, and diagrams for client and public presentations
  • Experience preparing natural resource or landscape design and construction cost estimates
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks with a strong attention to detail
  • Self-driven and independently motivated to move tasks and projects forward with minimal guidance or direction
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, and clients
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master of Landscape Architecture, Master of Science in Natural Resource Management, or other related degree from an accredited program
  • One or more years of professional experience in landscape design
  • Professional licensure in the State of Minnesota or in pursuit of professional licensure
  • Experience working and communicating with contractors and clients on- and off construction sites
  • Experience with ArcGIS software
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Civil3D or similar CAD-based artistic rendering software
  • Planting design experience and knowledge of local planting techniques and species
  • Experience performing vegetation surveys and ecological quality assessments, developing native seed mixes, and preparing ecological restoration plans.


A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Minnesota, office(s).

NOTE: Must be able to work in locations that feature rough terrain typical of construction and restoration sites. This position ay also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided.
