Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world. Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.

Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electrocobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution centre for finished nickel products.

Our Team:

Our team is responsible for the sustainable procurement for the Operations ensuring a strategic sourcing methodology that consistently provides cost reductions throughout the procurement process.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Procurement Analyst l, Local 2020-05 to join our team in Sudbury. This is a 12-month fixed term opportunity.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing junior level support in purchasing materials, equipment and services for operations and projects implementations, aiming to assure the supply of items for business continuity, at the lowest total cost of ownership possible, achieving industry best practice standards of delivery time and quality of products and services.

Accountabilities

In this position you will:

  • Execute procurement processes including:\t

    • Plan purchases / defining supply terms and strategies
    • \t\t
    • Competitive bidding preparation
    • \t\t
    • Commercial evaluation of proposals, including value analysis, TCO (total cost of ownership) and business case analysis
    • \t\t
    • Negotiation
    • \t\t
    • Documentation Control / Commercial Contract Management
    • \t\t
    • Implementation of legal contracts when required
    • \t
    \t
  • \t
  • Participate on the elaboration of materials and service purchase planning along with stakeholders, through the use of market analysis, consumption history, etc.
  • \t
  • Suggest priorities of purchase demands through the consolidation of information, such as criticality of the categories, as well as analysis of the market.
  • \t
  • Execute a sourcing plan for technical purchases, according to company timelines.
  • \t
  • Build an understanding of suppliers’ facilities and production processes, along with Vale’s facilities and production process with the goal of identifying supply chain opportunities.

  • Work with departments (internal customers, DIDS) in the development and approval of new suppliers and products.
  • \t
  • Recommend competitive suppliers in alignment with category strategies, and stakeholders (vendor management area, requisitioning area, safety, etc.)
  • \t
  • Learn supply chain and document controls to facilitate the operational integration with suppliers, through documented contracts
  • \t
  • Information collection, critical analysis, developing and implementation plans for suppliers in potential risk (like insolvency, breach of contract)
  • \t
  • Interface between users and procurement for resolution and mitigation of risk of claims from suppliers
  • \t
  • Participate on synergy meetings with the customers and suppliers with the objective to capture future demands that will impact the operation and the stock level, identify items for inclusion and revise criticality of stock items; includes review of supplier performance with recommended action to address issues or deficiencies.

  • Maintain relationship with current and future companies that supplies goods or services to Vale
  • \t
  • Assure availability of goods and services that demand continuous supple through follow up of existing contracts and or review for contract amendment or renewal
  • \t
  • Monitor key performance indicators to understand key suppliers’ performance.

Qualifications and Specific Skills:

Education: Undergraduate Degree or College Diploma preferred in Business related discipline (example Commerce, Engineering/Certified Engineering technologist, Legal). Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP) certification is an asset. Certification through Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) is also desirable.

Experience: 1-5 years progressive experience in related roles (Vale or external) is preferred. Such roles might include: Buyers, procurement officers, contract administrators, category managers, etc.

Computer Skills: General Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook), Access, Adobe, Internet, working knowledge of Vale procurement systems including SAP.

Project leadership experience, demonstrated negotiation skills, inventory and warehousing experience, working knowledge of contract law, sales tax, customs procedures as well as duty and transportation options is an asset.
