Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base located in White Pine County, Nevada. Its workforce comes from Ely, Eureka, Elko, and Spring Creek area. Kinross acquired in Bald Mountain in January 2016. Nevada is one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend.

Job Description

This position is responsible for conducting Safety and MSHA training as needed and to ensure that department employee training is delivered in a safe, efficient manner. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to; maintenance of accurate training records, reporting and training material creation for specified department(s). Individuals will continuously foster, support and align their daily functions to reflect Kinross' Core values. This position must be able to effectively balance work between time in the field and office environments.

Job Responsibilities

1. Effectively reports and communicates with direct supervisor.
2. Communicates and works well with Supervisors to meet the needs of their specific department.
3. Ensure quality and consistent design of training material and training curricula.
4. Develop and deliver quality safety meetings for the department and crews.
5. Ensures accurate and complete training documentation is completed within the department.
6. Effectively trains in the field and completes quality documented training observations.
7. Assist with annual refresher training.
8. Ensures that training protocol and processes are communicated to the supervisors.
9. Ability to work well with all departments. Coordinate training with safety department)
10. Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
11. Assist and support the CRM program
12. Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
13. Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
14. Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
15. Works without risk or harm to self and others.
16. Punctuality and regular attendance required.
17. Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in mining and processing systems.
  • Minimum 1 years' experience in a training or instructional field.
  • Certified MSHA Instructor preferred.


  • Skills

  • General knowledge of all site operations, with a solid foundation in the Ore Processing, Metallurgy and Assay Lab Operations.
  • Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing Microsoft word, Excel spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.
  • Must know basic math and be able to use a simple calculator.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills.
  • Must possess the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Ability to work independently, with employees and also as a member of the management team.
  • Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
  • Requires valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • Must be willing to learn and train new tasks and changes to the process.
  • Must be self-motivated, and able to solve problems with little supervision, identifies opportunities for improvement and workflow.
  • Must have a strong aptitude to solve relatively complex issue as it relates to processes or equipment.
