We are seeking an urban planner with up to 5 years planning experience support to our planning, place and design teams; assist in the preparation of a range of urban planning proposals and strategies; and provide high quality, client responsive service and expert technical advice and direction on a range of multi- disciplinary projects, contributing to the growth of our place-led design service across Australia.

As the successful candidate, you will:


  • Assist in the preparation of planning documentation, strategies, and applications;
  • Collaborate with design team to ensure outputs meet statutory and strategic planning requirements;
  • Assist with the evolution of place led planning and design ideas and concepts, including compliance with regulatory and associated legal requirements and prepare strategies to convert proposals to approval;
  • Coordinate work completed by project consultants and design team members;
  • Undertake research and obtain insights, conclusions, and recommendations from complex data to inform proposals and incorporate into strategies and projects across planning, place and design disciplines;
  • Assist with knowledge transfer through project participation as well as in-house professional development initiatives;
  • Provide statutory and strategic urban planning advice and assistance to urban design related and multi-disciplinary projects covering project visioning, development strategy, master planning and subdivision, development applications and guidelines, form-based codes and regeneration strategies.



Experience and Competencies

  • Experience within state or local government, or the private sector, and possesses a sound understanding of Victorian state and local government processes, policy and legislation;
  • A working knowledge and understanding of placemaking and design principles, techniques and processes;
  • Previous experience in negotiating, assessing or preparing planning applications including subdivision and/ or development approvals, or strategic planning policy, instruments and frameworks;
  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of a strong company culture to share, lead and inspire;
  • A demonstrated passion for the built environment and the delivery of sustainable communities;
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills (verbal and written);
  • Strong capacity for teamwork and interpersonal/social skills;
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills, and verbal communications skills;
  • Demonstrated effective time management skills including the ability to prioritise workloads and perform tasks efficiently and demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail and high levels of presentation;
  • A high standard of professional and personal ethics and integrity.



You bring to the role:

  • Bachelor qualifications in urban planning, geography, urban design, landscape architecture, or related built environment discipline (essential);
  • Postgraduate qualification in urban planning or related built environment discipline (desirable);
  • Microsoft Office applications (essential);
  • Emerging urban design skills (desirable);
  • Ability to use design software, including Adobe Professional suite, (desirable) .
