About this role

What will you be responsible for?
The Senior Long Term Planning Engineer has site based scope (may support multiple sites in a region) reporting through the centralized operating model that covers the Long Term planning functional deliverables. The position reports to the Senior Long Term Planning Lead and is responsible for the completion/delivery of long term mine planning work packages for Merian operations and growth extensions. This includes Reserves and Resource reporting, long term planning aspects of annual business plans, support of site based studies and projects, Life of Asset (LoA) plans, Full Potential projects, and support for Strategic Resource Development (SRD) activities.

In this role you will

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:
  • Provide transparent and felt leadership in support of health, safety, security and S&ER programs.
  • Responsible for the generation of timely and accurate Long Term Planning work packages for the site:
  • Reserves and Resource estimation, planning and annual MRMR reporting.
  • Long-term planning options for Budget Expectations (5yr options) and LoA planning processes.
  • Business Plan Physicals, costs (Budget) and associated documentation for the +2 year to Life of Mine plan, in collaboration with the site mine planning teams and Technical Services Manager.
  • Mine Design, Long Term facilities design, tradeoffs and planning to support Budget and Life of Asset planning.
  • Life of Asset infrastructure design and planning support (tails, backfill, waste dumps, leach pads, haulage roads etc.).
  • Support the Mine Engineering functional work in the development and completion of conceptual to feasibility level studies for mining projects/extensions.
  • Support for reclamation and closure planning.
  • Conduct economic evaluations on long term mine development and open pit pushbacks.
  • Implement Long Term Mine Planning standard procedures, guidelines, standards, best practices and planning improvement initiatives at the site, including consideration of safety in design.
  • Support and collaborate with the site mine planning teams in the generation of the 0 to 2 years portion of the Business Plan to ensure a single integrated Life of Asset Business Plan for the site as part of bridge planning.
  • Liaise with geology and geotechnical engineers to resolve and apply design criteria for the mine being designed.
  • We liaise with mine operations to ensure practicality of designs.
  • We liaise with the SME function for specific technical expertise not available at site and for peer review of work packages delivered.
  • Support site projects and studies work and LTP components of Full Potential and Strategic Resource Development (SRD) work as the need arises.
  • Support unit cost development and COG analysis.
  • Build and maintain trust and credibility with key stakeholders including the site Technical Services Superintendent, site Studies lead, site Business Planner, Geology Superintendent, Resource Modeling Lead and other site functional teams.
  • Draw on experiences in Openpit mining to ensure the Long Term deliverables are considering and applying diversified engineering techniques.

Education:
  • B.Sc. Mining Engineering or equivalent is essential.

Experience:
  • Experience in arrange of mine planning horizons including long term mine planning, production support, mine operations and design in large and diversified mine sites, with preference for experience in conventional hard rock Gold / Copper-Gold operations.
  • Ability to build and maintain a strong communications network with planning peers, Technical Services Managers, Project/Study Directors, Mine Managers, and JV partner representatives.
  • Experience in operations with complex multi mine, multi process situations preferable and a knowledge of mine methods, mine design, production scheduling (strategic and tactical), equipment selection, reserve estimation and economic evaluations.
  • Knowledge of unit costing methods for resource and reserve analysis and of cash flow and financial analysis through the use and manipulation of project financial models. Experience with Xeras cost estimating tool a plus.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to influence and a high level of cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Self-starter and strong facilitation and presentation skills.
  • High level of competence in the use of mine planning software, including optimization techniques and experience with mine design and scheduling packages including Maptek / Minesight, Geovia Whittle and Minemax.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, listening), English bilingual a plus.
  • Knowledge of exploration methods and resource estimation.
  • Strong problem solving and 3D visualization skills.


Working conditions & location

Where you will be located!
  • The position is nominally located at the associated Site or Regional office, but may be open to flexible home location working arrangements; regardless of location, employee would be required to travel to site (Roster TBD), with regional travel based on engagement needs.
  • Position may require travel nationally and internationally.
  • Will be required to access mining and processing areas, rough terrain, or exploration sites.
  • Frequent working at a computer/monitor or keyboard.
  • Must be sensitive to cultural differences at the operations within the Company.

The salary range offered for this role is $93,585 to 115,605. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company's performance and their own individual performance.
