About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Advisor - Business Analysis to provide strategic advice and support to new technologies and growth for the Copper Group. You will be able to utilize a broad scope of your financial valuation skills, while building on your industry and business knowledge in order to create world-class strategies, integrated business plans and evaluate asset value and support project, commercial and operational investment decisions.

This role requires challenging the business while at the same time generating value-accretive ideas for investment. Reporting to the Manager - Business Analysis New Technology you will:
  • Generate and evaluate business cases for investments proposals, commercial and business development opportunities by building and maintaining valuation models and associated business cases
  • Work alongside knowledgeable teams such as the study teams, the operations team and the business development team to structure, develop and challenge investment proposals
  • Supports the development of business cases for capital expenditure and project justifications, clearly communicating context and reasoning.
  • Write investment committee papers, to present to the Rio Tinto senior management team
  • Contribute to the strategy and planning process of Product Groups by conducting analysis, and providing updates on the valuation of assets
  • Work and communicate to provide an understanding of critical aspects of the investment proposal and financial value and risk.
  • Work with the Business Development team to develop underlying assumptions and create valuation models for growth opportunities being pursued.
  • Assist the land team in executing their strategy to protect RTK's license to operate and increase value of the extensive land and water portfolio owned by RTK.
  • Thoroughly analyse and test assumptions and project risks and uncertainties. Work to ensure that financial outcomes of investment proposals and outcomes are communicated.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business / Finance, or Economics
  • At least 5+ years of experience in analytically demanding roles (e.g. engineering, investment banking, corporate finance, management consulting) including experience with financial valuation modelling;
  • Excellent knowledge in financial modelling, with a strong understanding of valuation concepts (e.g. IRR, NPV)
  • Excellent written and oral communication, with an ability to structure / synthetize key messages
  • Effective at managing your time and at prioritizing across multiple files
  • Strong interpersonal skills

It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • M.B.A Degree
  • Prior experience in mining and metals, oil and gas or other capital intensive heavy industry a plus (either directly or through professional services)

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter, and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the tops producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
