Job Description

Manages and administers the U.S. benefits program / processes, working closely with the Global Benefits Lead, helps manage costs of the programs, ensuring appropriate oversight and provides support to employees and HR teams. Also works with the Total Rewards Analyst and Total Rewards Partner for the U.S. to meet the needs of the HR teams. Resolves business issues, and supports the delivery of procedures and processes, ensuring consistency and effectiveness of service. Provides support to the Global Total Rewards team on both global compensation and executive compensation work, as required.

Job Responsibilities

Manages U.S. Benefits processes and activities:
  • Has a comprehensive understanding of the U.S. benefits plans, including health, dental, vision, prescription drug, life insurance, AD&D, disability, stop loss, flexible spending plans, retirement plan, well-being program, etc. Develops familiarity with contracts, benefits policies, and procedures. Interacts with various vendors in the administration of US Benefits. Understands benefit cost trends and assists in the ongoing review of benefit programs to meet program objectives and manage costs.
  • Acts as the first point of contact for any system issue, contact for site HR teams regarding benefit-related issues, troubleshoots issues raised, and escalates as appropriate.
  • Oversees the administration of benefits systems, including providing access to sites, running reports, and supporting system preparation for annual Open Enrollment.
  • Reviews and creates ad hoc reports as needed, such as but not limited to missing beneficiary, emergency contact, and aged-out dependents in various systems.
  • Manages monthly invoice process for completeness and accuracy, ensuring the accuracy of amounts invoiced, cost center to be charged, and timely processing for payment.
  • Supports identified audits/reviews, with data collection and analysis.
  • Supports the implementation, roll out and delivery of new benefits/programs, and employee communications.
  • Actively participates in all Open Enrollment (OE) work, including supporting the development of presentations and communication materials, reviewing data, ensuring completeness of the process and appropriate set up with Payroll for the plan year.
  • Leads work associated with the well-being program, including vendor management; wellness program and incentive plan design; eligibility; communication to sites, employees and spouses; administration of challenges; upload of monthly site point files; and processing Pulse Cash reports for Payroll.
  • Works closely with broker, vendors, legal counsel and IT, as required/identified, to address various matters and resolve issues.
  • Supports the administration of the retirement plan and non-qualified plan per plan documents and compliance, including communications, eligibility, etc.
  • Understands the U.S. legislative environment for benefits (including ERISA, HIPAA, etc.), and supports compliance activities including the annual ACA filing, plan audits, and other filings.
  • Supports US ESPP quarterly purchase file reviews.
  • Supports other processes and activities as identified.
  • Travel required to include US mine sites and Toronto, Canada/corporate office.

Partners with local HR and the business:
  • Builds and maintains relationships with local HR. Builds a strong understanding of the local business challenges and direction. Works with U.S. TR Partner to ensure compensation and benefits programs and practices meet local needs.
  • Supports the sites in completing Open Enrollment, including attending meetings, delivering presentations, meeting with employees, etc. Participates in monthly benefit meetings with HR teams.
  • Gathers feedback and input from local HR, employees, and/or business leaders relating to global rewards tools, processes, and programs, and works with Global Leads to address any concerns, or adapt tools, processes, and/or programs as appropriate.
  • As needed, assists with the annual budget and/or strategic business planning process to ensure that compensation and benefits are appropriately planned.


Supports global Total Rewards team:
  • Supports global total rewards projects and ongoing work as required, including compensation recommendations, compensation and benefits survey data submission and/or other analysis, compensation systems, retirement programs, executive compensation and benefits, HR analytics and reporting, etc.


Education and Experience

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Labor/Industrial Relations, Business Administration, Finance, or another related area of expertise
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP or CEBS professional designation preferred

Experience
  • 3-5 years related benefits or employee benefits administration experience
  • Previous experience with U.S. benefits required
  • Good knowledge of applicable U.S. federal regulations affecting employee benefit programs
  • Previous experience with compensation a plus
  • HRIS system knowledge a plus
  • Previous experience in the mining industry preferred
  • Experience partnering with HR/business management skills
