Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to become a key resource for strategic decision makers? Our Finance & Accounting team is looking for a Senior Accounting Analyst in Vancouver!

Reporting to the Manager, Finance & Accounting, this role will be supporting the Technology & Innovation group at Teck - generating a forward-looking view of our business by preparing and reconciling reports, following-up of controls applied to accounting operations and ensure compliance with corporate processes. The Senior Accounting Analyst will also improve systems in collaboration with partners across our operations and enterprise. Your work will allow the entire group to be more efficient, in addition to improving the accuracy of the tasks performed.

To be successful, we are looking for someone with sophisticated analytical, critical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities, who is also conscientious and detail oriented in their work. The successful candidate would use strong communication and interpersonal skills to present financial data in a meaningful way that increases the impact and value for the audience. The ability to thrive under pressure and work independently to meet priorities while building relationships within the team is vital for success in this role.

Responsibilities

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Prepare or review journal entries following IFRS related to Intangibles, PPE, Prepaids, G&A, R&D, accruals, and other ad hoc requests.
• Prepare or Review reconciliations for month end, quarter end and year-end financial reports
• Organize and analyze large data sets from ERP system
• Prepare working papers to demonstrate evidence of SOX controls
• Document assessment of requests to set up capital or expense project account codes based on International Accounting Standards
• Build and manage project codes in ERP system
• Ensure Accounting department and other Business Units are following procedures, controls, and corporate accounting policies
• Assist with internal and external audits
• Assist in memo preparation
• Lead and address multiple ad hoc requests
• Other projects as assigned

Qualifications

• CPA designation is required
• External financial audit experience or Minimum seven years of post-designation experience / 3 years of public practice accounting
• Cost Accounting or project accounting experience
• Familiarity with IFRS
• Critical Thinking and ability to prioritize tasks and/or Strong analytical capabilities and problem-solving ability
• Outstanding ability to multi-task and attention to detail are vital
• Confirmed ability to work collaboratively and communicate well with a variety of colleagues
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced work environment with some ambiguity
• Solid understanding of Microsoft Excel and ERP software is helpful
