The Manh Choh Project is a greenfield gold deposit in eastern Alaska being developed with ore being hauled to Kinross' Fort Knox mine north of Fairbanks for processing. The mine site is located in the Tetlin Hills, approximately 250 miles southeast of Fort Knox and 10 miles southeast of Tok. Production is expected to begin in 2024.

Job Summary

Responsible for supporting the Manh Choh project's two key contracts: Ore Haul and Mining. The Contract Analyst will support the Ore Haul Superintendent in managing the ore haulage contractor for the Manh Choh project to ensure that the contractor safely and efficiently delivers Manh Choh ore from the project near Tok, Alaska to the Fort Knox mill north of Fairbanks, Alaska. This position is also responsible for supporting the Mine Superintendent in managing the mining contractor for the Manh Choh project to ensure that the contractor safely and efficiently delivers Manh Choh mining metrics. The primary functions of the Contract Analyst are to review the contractors' operational records and invoices to ensure efficient operations, accurate invoicing and lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve contractor safety, cost, and efficiency.

This position is based in Fairbanks, Alaska (M-F) and will require frequent travel to the Manh Choh project site near Tok, Alaska and Fort Knox Mine outside of Fairbanks. May work holidays, shift work, and weekends as required.

Essential Functions

  • Monitor contractors' performance, forecast issues and develop mitigation strategies to limit impact to business.
  • Review contractors' invoices to ensure fair and accurate billing vs actual work complete.
  • Calculate contractor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and verify contractor's calculations for contractor performance incentives (safety, performance, fuel efficiency, etc.)
  • Maintain and build collaborative relationships with key stakeholders as needed.
  • Represent company's interest in budget review and other communication with ore haul and mining contractors and support the ore haul and mining superintendents to effectively resolve issues that may arise.
  • Support external affairs and human resources with outreach to public schools and community members as needed.
  • Assist ore haul and mining contractors in developing Contractor's invoices, KPIs, and contractor reporting structure to prepare for operations and to measure performance during operations.
  • Support developing annual ore haul and mining budgets and monitor adherence to budgeted production and cost deliverables.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to continuously improve transport of ore and mining including safety, cost, operational efficiency, data, and reporting.
  • Compile, organize, research, analyze, and summarize financial and operational information to support decision-making.
  • Using independent judgement and discretion, perform cost and benefit analysis on proposed projects where benefits could be considered safety, cost, production, and enablers (setting others up for success).
  • Coordinate with multiple departments/sources for both site and corporate-level reporting and KPI benchmarking.
  • Facilitate bridging communication between Kinross Alaska functional groups: Manh Choh Mining, Fort Knox Mining, Ore Processing, Ore Haul, Supply Chain, Finance, and Continuous Improvement to drive successful outcomes for overall business goal not just a functional group.
  • Promote the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of operations by identifying and implementing opportunities for cost reductions, process improvements, and reporting improvements.
  • Support superintendents in acquiring and interpreting information, especially concerning contractor performance and reconciliation.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • Five years previous related work experience preferred. Internships and part-time jobs considered.
  • Experience in business optimization, continuous improvement, and managing ore haulage, mining, and or construction contracts preferred.
  • Bachelor degree in business, engineering, mathematics, computer science, logistics, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Possess strong verbal, technical writing, analytical, problem solving and persuasive skills.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Requires high level of energy and self-motivation with good organizational and time management skills for individual and team environments.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs are required. Experience with JD Edwards's and SQL databases software is preferred. Further development while on job will be supported and expected.
  • Comfort continuously learning and asking for help after reasonable exhaustion of self-learning resources (search engines, Kinross University, standard operating procedures).
  • Must be adaptable to changing priorities and comfortable communicating changes.
  • Working knowledge of cost accounting principles, practices, and procedures helpful.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.
