The location of this role is the Hermosa Project site near Patagonia, Arizona

The Role

The Senior Project Controls Specialist (Office and Site) will be responsible for tasks related to the development of budgets, controlling costs, variance analysis, estimation of accruals, monitoring of contractor reporting, monitoring the impact of changes and identification of trends and corrective/preventative actions to influence on-budget delivery of the construction scopes. This role will report to the Project Controls Manager and support the construction team in achieving project objectives as they relate to cost and budget control.

Accountabilities ( Include but are not limited to) :

Individual Accountabilities:
  • Tracks and analyses the project costs including budgets, commitments, actuals, accruals and forecasts.
  • Predicts and mitigates potential cost impacts to the project by managing, monitoring, trending and reporting changes in accordance with the project change management process.
  • Maintains a current overall project forecast to completion, including owner's costs and contractor's costs in the cost management application / system.
  • Monitors and reports the actual costs compared to budget, including detailed variance analysis.
  • Receives commitment and spend information from SAP, contractors, and finance and collates data into cost the management system.
  • Generates monthly cost reports, construction dashboard cost reports and maintains adherence to the project cost coding structure.
  • Identifies and implements improvement initiatives, including opportunities for increased capital efficiency and productivity.
  • Collects cost data in support of performance measurements and project benchmarking.
  • Provides budget and estimate cost input for packages of work to Project Contracts & Procurement.


Qualifications, Skills, and Expertise:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business/Finance, Construction, Technology, Engineering or related field
  • Certification from AACE or PMI or another relevant professional body considered an asset
  • Minimum of five (5) years of construction or mining industry cost experience
  • Experience in developing sustainable project control, cost, planning, document control, and change management processes for early stage projects to be utilized through all project phases.
  • Previous cost engineering applications experience such as Prism, Ecosys and SAP
  • Capital project experience/EPCM experience preferable
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, Aconex, Cost Management systems
  • Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
  • Strong English language written and oral communication skills
  • Effective communication with other departments and leadership
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining a safe work culture
  • Ability to work under pressure, maintain composure, set priorities, and work with a project team
