Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Drilling Superintendent to join the Mineral Resources Department.

Reporting to the Feasibility Manager, you will coordinate the operation of PFS diamond drilling rigs, AGC diamond drilling rigs and RC drilling rigs during targeted drilling for the pre-feasibility study of the Lumwana mine expansion project. The Superintendent will recognize that they are working within a large project and that they will be required to develop a health and safety management plan that will assess risk, hazards and establish SOP's (operational and reporting) associated with all the MRM drilling disciplines leading to effective controls being put in place. This will include conducting contractor audits to ensure Barrick's global standards are adhered to on site . Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
  • Plan and execute drilling program with Senior Geologist, Project Engineer, Drilling projects coordinator and Geotech Superintendent located on site.
  • Develop daily, weekly, and monthly look-ahead work plans with Senior Geologist, Project Engineer, Drilling projects coordinator and Geotech. Submit daily, weekly, and monthly operational and productivity reports. Generate catchup plans in case drilling is below targets
  • Ensure the correct management of the drilling operations by optimizing the assets and equipment and supervising the execution of the activities of his/her subordinates.
  • QAQC of rig data
  • Whenever instructed by his/her superiors liaise on behalf of Company with the Client's representative regarding contract management and interpretation.
  • Verify the maintenance routines of the drilling equipment/assets are appropriate and they guarantee an efficient performance of the drilling activities.
  • Be familiar with the established drilling operational procedures.
  • Ensure reporting routines are fulfilled.
  • Verify the stock level of spare parts and consumables for the drilling equipment on the rigs of his/her competence are kept at an appropriate level.
  • Cooperate with the rig site personnel in performing the rig moving activities by supervising the activity of his subordinates.
  • Ensure all classification society and authorities rules and regulations applicable to the activities are adhered to.
  • Be safety conscious in all his work and behavior.
  • Ensure Company's and Client's HSE and Q/A policies and standards are implemented on the rig sites.
  • Actively participate in HSE inspections/audit on the rig site.
  • Call for / Participate in investigations in case of serious incidents.
  • Apply and ensure the correct application of prescribed safety standards and regulations.
  • Verify proper housekeeping is maintained on the rig site.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Geology or equivalent
  • Member of the EIZ, GSZ or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the geology of the CACB (Central African Copperbelt).
  • Experience in managing a large-scale RC and Diamond drill program.
  • Experience managing mining assets.
  • Have detailed and demonstrated technical knowledge of drilling.
  • Hands on experience with both DD and RC drill rigs.
  • Have a detailed understanding of drill hole planning, scheduling, and optimization
  • Knowledge in geology software (Leapfrog, Vulcan software, Acquire/Data-shed, Snowden Supervisor, Micro-mine) And Business improvement tools
  • Have detailed understanding of drill bits, drilling motors and the relation of the drilling rig circulating system to these tools.
  • Be familiar with cost reporting and cost verification as it pertains to approval of company expenditures. Have demonstrated ability to manage multiple drilling rigs at one time in a safe and cost-effective manner.
  • Understand and demonstrate leadership in all aspects of managing a HSE compliant operation without sacrificing operational efficiency.
