Downer Rail and Transit Systems (RTS) is looking for a Senior Data Analytics Developer to be key member of the Data & Analytics team which delivers reporting and business algorithms for optimal asset management using business intelligence (BI) and data science(DS). The successful candidate will be a key conduit between the Data & Analytics team and the engineers with the potential to get involved in all aspects of the work the team do. This role will suit someone from a BI / Data Analyst background with a keen interest in data science.

Downer has long-term contracts to maintain nearly 200 trains currently that automatically generate diagnostic data in binary form, which gets loaded 24x7. We unpack and use that data for: a range of deep-dive reporting (investigations), monitoring operational performance and increasingly for predictive modelling.

The Data & Analytics team is responsible for finding and implementing new algorithms and data visualisations to exploit this data to support the business imperative to reduce reactive maintenance and increase predictive maintenance which will extend asset life, reduce maintenance costs and avoid abatements.

Key responsibilities:

• Design and develop changes to inhouse PowerApps applications; mentoring of junior PowerApps developers
• Design and develop BI artefacts for ad-hoc investigations & data exploration, uplift the quality of existing BI/DS artefacts; help engineers understand asset behaviour
• Design and develop valuable metrification of performance that can be used across our Through-Life Support businesses

You may also get involved in:

• Productionising (build/test/support) other team members' PowerApps, BI or Data science outputs
• Collaborating with engineers on their own data science / BI issues
• Improving the technical documentation for our users
• Contributing to the evolution of our Operational Intelligence (live data monitoring of our trains in service) capabilities

About you:

• Tertiary Qualifications in a relevant discipline
• Strong communication skills (listening, explaining complex concepts to various stakeholders)
• Essential: Proven Expertise with PowerApps
• Essential: Proven Experience with Enterprise BI Tools (ideally Cognos or PowerBI)
• Ideal: Experience in Asset Management (Rolling Stock)
• Ideal: Experience with Time-Series data
• Ideal: Experience with Jupyter Notebooks for Python, SQL
