About the role

We are offering a 4-month internship in Discipline Engineering Department supporting Capital Sustaining projects team as Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering co-op student. This opportunity will be based in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador at our Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) operations.

Our internship in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering will allow you to be involved in research, design, development, testing and maintenance of aspects of mining, mineral process operations and capital project development and execution.

Your contribution

To be considered for this role, you will have:
  • At least Two year completed* in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or any other related field
  • Safety mindset
  • Leadership skills, eagerness to learn and ready for the challenge ahead
  • Flexibility and autonomy
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Valid driving license

* To be eligible for this internship, you must be returning to school after the work term and have the right to work in Canada.

Where you'll be working?
We are a leading North American producer and exporter of premium iron ore pellets and high-grade concentrate with average iron grades greater than 66%. With a team of over 2,400 employees, IOC is committed to providing value and continuity for our customers, employees, communities and shareholders through our unique mine to port approach, taking advantage of our full integration and wholly owned infrastructure to deliver our high-quality concentrate and pellets to our customers across the globe.

IOC's operations include a mine with five operational pits, a concentrator and a pelletizing plant located near Labrador City in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. We also operate a wholly owned 418 km railway, the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway (QNS&L), that links our Labrador operations to Company-owned port facilities in Sept-Iles. This internship is based in Labrador City.
