Job description:

General Role Purpose (brief description of this job)

Reporting to the Logistics Supervisor, the Transport Officers is responsible for ensuring the safe and secure movement of all goods in a timely manner including all Internal and external transport coordination with MPSA fleet and rental equipment; along with vendors and contractor interaction.

Qualifications (required for job) & Knowledge & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain or relevant discipline, preferred.
  • Significant experience in fleet management and / or logistics, 2 years.
  • Working knowledge of ERP software systems; JD Edwards or Oracle based.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office products knowledge; Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong ability to work in a "team" environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain self-discipline within a stressful environment.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Problem solving, decision making and analytical skills.
  • Fluency in English is preferred and proficiency in Spanish is required.

Core Specific Responsibilities & Expected Deliverables

  • Organize transportation activities, managing information accrued from point of origin to delivery, orchestrating transportation movements and arranging for services as necessary.
  • Management of our internal fleet (includes trucks, flatbeds and tankers), maintenance reports and follow up activities required with the workshop, including engagement in preventative maintenance planning activities to ensure fleet availability to support our business requirements.
  • Coordination of internal and external transport with subcontractors. Communication with all parties involved.
  • Mobilization of general and over dimensional/overweight cargoes from / to the mine site and internally.
  • Coordination of access to site of all logistics contractors and visitors delivering cargo on a daily basis.
  • Perform weekly report of movements made by subcontractors.
  • Report and update all logistic activities into the company's ERP software - JD Edwards.
  • Fleet allocation for deliveries of commodities and end user orders, Internal warehouse transfers, Coppers samples to lab, relines, gold room, general cargo, cement orders from projects and material from port to laydowns.
  • Weekly equipment inspections, inventory of lashing equipment (chains, belts), fire extinguishers and accessories.
  • Respond to enquiries and help resolve customer concerns and issues for all of our transport request.
  • Update, process and obtain all the documentation regarding the fleet: plates, insurance, records, weight and dimensions)
  • Revise at a detailed level and process contractor's monthly invoice consolidations for transport services.
  • Requisition and follow up of service orders, minor tooling and personal protective equipment when required.
  • Verification and follow-up of the daily near misses reports in My Compliance until action is completed.
  • Coordination of inductions and safety training for MPSA drivers of the internal fleet and contractors.
  • Payroll, vacations and permits.

  • Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
  • Maintain HSE standards and ensure strict compliance within the company's policies.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor and management.

Operational Requirements

Cobre Panama is a remote site. This exciting position is based on-site and will be focusing on driving and delivering operational accountability and ownership across various units at Cobre Panama site. Rosters and working hours may vary depending on business requirements.
