Job description:

General Role Purpose (brief description of this job)

The Procurement Specialist is an integral part of the Procurement Operations Team and assists with the implementation of purchasing and procurement contracts for goods, supports finding more alternatives, closer to Panama, replacing the historic South African and Australian suppliers on whom we still heavily rely, working on Demand Forecasting, committing to manufacturing time with suppliers up-front iso upon placing PO, assesses the performance of key suppliers and spend categories to develop business improvement plans that deliver sustainable value to the organization.

Qualifications (required for job) & Knowledge & Experience

  • Bachelor in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Finance, Industrial Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, or Mathematics
  • Procurement certification or higher level training will be an advantage.
  • 10+ year mining or heavy industry experience.
  • PMAC / SCMP / CIPS certification preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of Power BI, Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic procurement and analytical software.
  • In-depth business management, supply chain, and strategic sourcing knowledge.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet analysis, through the use of Excel - VBA.
  • Experience manipulating data within large database systems.
  • Ability to work on multiple project simultaneously, and to accommodate changing priorities and situations.
  • Working well under pressure and with tight deadlines while maintaining strong accuracy.
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to think strategically.
  • Proficiency to perform and comprehend price analyses, source selection/justification, with guidance as needed.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate new information, processes and tools.
  • Strong proficiency in English and Spanish.

Core Specific Responsibilities & Expected Deliverables
  • Designing, implementing and maintaining information systems to support transactional processes and decision making.
  • Designing and implementing process improvement to reduce times and increase efficiencies.
  • Managing data interchange between the company and suppliers.
  • Support finding more alternatives, closer to Panama (replacing the historic South African and Australian suppliers on whom we still heavily rely).
  • Working on demand Forecasting, committing to manufacturing time with suppliers up-front is upon placing PO - this should allow for shorter lead times, lower freight costs and higher level of compliance to PO.
  • Operate within and observe all relevant and applicable laws of Panama.
  • Strictly comply with HSE procedures and standards in particular a high standard of housekeeping.
  • Adherence to all FQM Cobre Panama policies and procedures.
  • Adopt the FQM Way culture across the business - "Smarter, Bolder, Driven, Together".
  • Determine supply needs and research potential suppliers.
  • Act as a liaison and communicate pricing and performance needs to vendors and suppliers.
  • Prepare cost-benefit analysis reports for review by managers.
  • Negotiate favourable procurement contracts with selected vendors and suppliers.
  • Document processes and generate supply cost reports.
  • Monitor the company's demand for products to avoid supply shortages.
  • Keep abreast of vendor and supplier-related activities in the industry.
  • Compile information to keep informed on price trends and manufacturing processes.
  • Confer with suppliers and analyse supplier's operations to determine factors that affect prices and determine lowest cost consistent with quality, reliability, and ability to meet required schedules.
  • Review proposals, negotiate prices, select or recommend suppliers, analyse trends, follow up orders placed, verify delivery and maintain necessary records.
  • Track and communicate savings achieved from cost reduction initiatives which include sourcing events, value engineering projects to determine effectiveness.
  • Develop different award optimization scenarios to minimize total cost of ownership and conduct post-implementation variance analysis.
  • Administer opportunity assessments and benchmarking to develop sourcing opportunities.
  • Administer development and administration of supplier assessments, scorecards, and other analytics to manage supplier performance.
  • Administer risk management assessment relating to supplier vulnerability, sourcing options, and material availability.
  • Manage various procurement projects that include the areas of purchasing, contracting, sourcing, category management and other projects in the company.
  • Develop implementation and transition plans to support supplier qualification/transition.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Procurement Superintendent or delegate.

Operational Requirements

Cobre Panama is a remote site. This exciting position is currently based in the city but may move to an onsite rotation roster and will be focusing on driving and delivering operational accountability and ownership across various units at Cobre Panama site. Rosters and working hours may vary depending on business requirements.

Environmental Responsibilities

  • Comply with current environmental regulations in Panama.
  • Comply with the commitments contained in the Environmental Impact Studies and other additional studies in this regard, which apply to your area and activities.
  • Comply with the provisions of the Minera Panama Environmental Management System.
