The location of this role is the Tucson, Arizona office.

The Role

This role leads the South32 Hermosa Learning and Training framework, practices, and governance to enable workforce capability development and competency to meet business requirements in alignment with community commitments.

Accountabilities ( Include but are not limited to) :

Individual Accountabilities:
  • Develops, in consultation with key stakeholders, the learning and training framework and practices in alignment with strategic business objectives, workforce planning and individual and organisation capability needs.
  • Coordinates the training governance principles and processes to ensure training and learning align to the South32 standards and legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Manages and coordinates training needs analysis and refinement of skills matrix for South32 in partnership with operational readiness and operational training representatives
  • Collaborates with outside consultants and OEM's to effectively develop (where needed) and present training programs
  • Develops and delivers pragmatic, fit for purpose, value adding and accessible training and learning solutions to meet identified training needs and the business strategy
  • Partners with operational training representatives to monitor, report on and provide insight into training activity to support effective operational capability development
  • Maintains current knowledge of new training techniques and developments
  • Monitors, reports on and provides insight into training activity to support workforce and capability development
  • Work with wider Human Resources team, External Affairs team and senior stakeholders to define, source and implement solutions that address current and future workforce capability requirements
  • Play a key role in the North American HR Team and actively contribute to the wider people and culture strategy


Qualifications, Skills, and Expertise:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Human Resources, Learning and Development, Education, or related field
  • Seven (7) years' experience in Learning & Training field within mining, construction, manufacturing, or other heavy industry related field
  • Understanding of learning and development including adult learning principles, instructional design, and program evaluation
  • Experience leading the design and implementation of learning strategies, projects, and initiatives in commercial and/or industrial environments, utilising technology for improved learning transfer for ROI
  • Ability to evaluate and research training options and alternatives
  • Ability to prioritise and manage competing stakeholder demands
  • Change and project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing instructional design methodologies
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • Outcome focus, results orientated with commitment to delivery of high-quality products on time and within budget
  • Proficiency in Learning Management Systems (LMS)
  • Hands-on experience with project management and budgeting
