The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Procurement Student to join our Procurement Team in Toronto & Sudbury This is a 12-month fixed term position.

As a Co-op student you will be an important part of the Procurement team working with Senior Category Buyers for various categories (Global/Regional) to understand complex supply chains of mining industry (from demand planning, procurement, operations, projects, logistics) in a fast-moving global company.

Additionally, in this position you will:
  • Work with various procurement applications, data analysis tools and resources providing support to teams and key stakeholders
  • Research current supply base for avenues of cost savings or value-added activities
  • Support the Purchasing Team on various projects, studies and cost savings initiatives
  • Create, edit, and issue purchase orders in accordance with our company policy
  • Adjust open commitments and close Purchase orders as required.
  • Communicate effectively with all requisitioning departments and arrange for proper and accurate information exchange between originator and supplier
  • Support the Purchasing Team with data consolidation, quote summaries, RFQs, and price adjustments, where required
  • Deliver a weekly purchase order report to management; Follow up of back orders, expedites and missing shipments
  • Assist in tracking of company goals and objectives
  • Assist in new supplier development
  • Assist in maintaining vendor files, purchase price, and price fluctuations on purchased items
  • Performs other duties as required

  • Procurement Skills - You will learn all facets of the procurement process like all basic tactical work, RFX, Contract creation, Legal review, technical review, commercial analysis, commercial approvals, the key role is anticipated to be the planning and control. Depending on motivation and abilities, negotiation of contracts may be assigned.
  • Opportunity to work on various e-tools such as SAP, Power BI, e-auctions etc..

About You
  • Currently enrolled in the 3 rd year of Supply Chain, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or Mining Engineering degree program.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills (verbal and written)
  • Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong MS Office skills - Excel (spreadsheets), Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent problem-solving techniques and methods
  • Ability to interact with all levels of employees in the organization
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
