Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio.

About the Role

Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, a n opportunity currently exists for a dynamic, highly experienced Shaft & Surface Planner to join the TE2 Project team. . As part of the Integrated Management Team (IMT), the role will ensure that the required planning is undertaken for the Shaft and Surface area at Level 4 and that the schedule and progress information is received for updating the Project schedule.

Key tasks will include:-
  • Accurate construction planning, progress measurement and reporting
  • Reviewing contractors level 4 schedule and provide feedback as required
  • Maintaining any interface milestones between various contractors and client managed scope
  • Updating the Project schedule to align with the contractors Level 4 schedules as necessary
  • Maintaining internal schedules and review externally generated schedules (including bar charts, S-curves, histograms, deliverables lists, probability/accuracy analysis) for completeness and accuracy.
  • Preparing forecasts for the Construction phase, including monitoring and reporting Contractor performance
  • Managing change control for the planning and progress measurement systems
  • Producing and presenting progress and performance reports to the IMT
  • Coordinating and facilitating Interactive planning sessions with the IMT and the Contractor
  • Attending IMT schedule and progress meetings
  • Monthly and bi-weekly reporting and client interface meetings
  • Co-ordination of interface between mining and construction
  • Critical path and overall schedule analysis and ensuring team focus in correct areas
  • Progress measurement and quantity tracking via quantity man hour reports
  • Extension of time claim analysis
  • Review of tender documents and tenders to ensure correct key dates and quantities
  • Approval of subcontractor schedules
  • Resource planning
  • Alignment of manpower planning and camp rooms availability


About You

Ideally you will possess 10+years'experience in a similar senior planning role within the Mining & Resource industry working on large scale projects. Underground shaft experience would be highly beneficial.

Skills & Experience:-
  • Comprehensive knowledge of planning and progress reporting principles and management techniques
  • Construction planning experience, including detailed knowledge of the construction trades and tools involved, industry standards and usage, resulting in the ability to estimate task durations and logic sequences
  • Accomplished in the use of planning programs, spread sheets and data manipulation
  • The ability to understand engineering specifications and drawings, and to communicate in appropriate technical terms
  • Experienced in the use of Project and/or Primavera planning software, including development of Quantity / Manhour Reporting
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) able to produce charts, histograms, reports and interrogate data
  • Well-rounded project controls experience
  • Able to communicate with Client, IMT and Contractors on site
  • Good presentation and analytical skills
