Our Team:

The Utilities Department is a multidiscipline workforce including Electricians, Millwrights, and Instrumentation Technicians. The Lead Power Engineer is an integral and, in many instances, the primary contact for the various internal and external work groups. The main commodities are electricity, steam, air and water. Our goal is to provide uninterrupted services to the Mine and the Surface Plants while everyone is Home Safe.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Lead Power Engineering - 2nd Class to join our Utilities Department in Thompson, Manitoba.

As a Lead 2 nd Class Power Engineer, you will:
  • Gain knowledge and proficiency in SAP
  • Develop leadership skills and independent critical thinking
  • Work independently as well as in small groups (Maintenance and Operations)
  • Manage concurrent task
  • Cooperate with various work groups to complete tasks (example: Engineering, Projects)

Additionally, in this position you will:
  • Follow Vale's Safety Policies, Programs and Legislative Standards
  • Work Collectively with peers and cross functionally with colleagues in engineering, maintenance, and services to achieve the objectives of the plant
  • Support the Plant Manager in the development and management of the cost and capital expenditure budget
  • Execute the implementation of new management systems
  • Seek out opportunities for continuous improvements and lead or participate in teams to implement them
  • Utilize data collection systems to identify and implement change to reduce process variability
  • Ensure there is adherence to the Power Engineers Act.
  • Provide Divisional month end billing statements and facilitate plant access to Utilities billing data.
  • Train the team and others, as required, to foster best-practices, skills, and proficiencies



About You

Education:
  • Second Class Power Engineering Certificate is required

Experience:
  • 5 years of experience in a large facility operating, power distribution, steam generation, vacuum, compressed air, and water distribution systems

Skills:
  • Strong communication skills and development of concise documents and presentation materials
  • Solid understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Excel
  • Demonstrate open and transparent dialogue
  • Ability to monitor complex processes and coordinate critical activities
  • Seek out opportunities for continuous improvements and lead or participate in teams to implement them
  • Utilize data collection systems to identify and implement change to reduce process variability
  • Experience with coordinating shift resources to ensure uninterrupted services to internal customers
  • Knowledge of planning, organizing, budgeting and prioritizing construction projects is an asset
