Description

Performs duties related to the operation and maintenance of tailings compoundments.

  • May assist with and perform minor repairs on valves, spickets and pressure systems
  • May assist with and perform drain valve replacements and plugging and patching leaks
  • Responsible for having knowledge of mantling and dismantling spickets on tailing lines
  • Responsible for having knowledge of proper lock-out procedures of tailings line to perform valve replacements
  • Responsible for having knowledge of procedures for controlling pressure of slurry into tailings dam and changing pressure on main tailings line
  • May assist with and perform routine inspections of dams and complete required documentation
  • Responsible for having knowledge of algae pond process which includes monitoring and setting flow rates into correct lines
  • May communicate with thickener operator on flows to tailings dam
  • Responsible for learning the monitoring system on tailings line and may assist in performing adjustments as necessary
  • May operate mobile equipment such as bulldozers, loaders, water trucks, motor graders, boom trucks, dump trucks, light duty vehicles, fusion machines, forklifts, and utilize hand and power tools
  • May assist with maintenance activities
  • Perform area housekeeping
  • Perform other duties as required.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three (3) months experience in one of the following areas:
    • Mining/Manufacturing
    • Industrial Operations
    • Commercial Construction
    • Commercial Landscaping
    • Commercial Agriculture
  • Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety.


Preferred

  • High School diploma or GED


Criteria/Conditions

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms and work in confined spaces
  • Occasionally may be required to lift up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the work day
  • Will be required to work rotating shifts in a 24/7/365 operation
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
