Description

Under general supervision, assists in providing technical advice and guidance for designated Engineering projects and programs at assigned site. Work with a team in order to plan, execute, and process photogrammetry and other remote viewing operations with Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS). Work involves sUAS operations including mission planning, conducting safety briefings, filing relevant documentation, maintaining equipment, and maintaining current proficiency with systems.

  • Assist in the review, investigation and development of appropriate recommendations regarding assigned Engineering projects
  • Develop training material and conduct training on Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS)
  • Act as Lead sUAS Pilot and establish and implement procedures within company guidelines
  • Operate Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) sUAS to meet survey/inspection goals and file all necessary FAA documentation to conduct operations
  • Assist in compilation of data obtained from UAS with GIS mapping/surveying tasks for identified areas
  • Analyze GIS data and provide recommendations to management
  • Participate on small to medium site construction, expansion or modification projects
  • Administer contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
  • Develop working knowledge of local, state and federal regulations appropriate to area of assignment
  • Perform other duties as required


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • This position requires international air travel. In accordance with Freeport-McMoRan's requirement for all employees whose job requires international travel, if you are hired you will be required to submit proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to travel by air internationally, unless the company has granted a medical or religious accommodation.
  • High School diploma or GED and (4) four years of Engineering experience, OR
  • Bachelor's degree in a Scientific or Engineering discipline
  • Must hold either an airline transport, commercial, private, recreational, sport pilot, or remote pilot small UAS airman certificate from the FAA
  • Additional certifications or licensure appropriate to the job may be required
  • Must hold a valid US driver's license
  • Ability to travel 50%, both nationally and internationally to operating locations


Preferred Qualifications
  • Skilled in resolving day-to-day questions/problems regarding equipment, materials, methods and procedures needed to complete projects
  • Ability to conduct preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and develop maintenance training material
  • Skilled in safely using, maintaining and training repair of specialized equipment to complete assigned duties, including GIS/GPS mapping techniques
  • Ability to assess site processes, equipment and infrastructure and incorporate in to action plans and training material
  • Ability to use a variety of computer software applications, especially Microsoft Office and Pix4D, AutoCAD, and Google Earth Pro as well as sUAS software such as FalconView
  • Ability to perform and implement and train Airspace analysis
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Skilled in budget preparation, monitoring and administration
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions


Criteria/Conditions

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Work is in an outdoor, mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, talk, hear and see
  • The work requires the ability to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and perform other similar actions frequently during the course of the workday
  • 50% travel, both nationally and internationally to operating locations
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

Compensation:

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $69,000-$94,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.

  • Site-based positions, or positions which require unescorted access to site-based operational areas, which are held by employees who are required to receive MSHA, OSHA, DOT, HAZWOPER and/or Hazard Recognition Training; or
