Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking a Planner in order to grow its Perth Minerals & Metals group to meet the large demand in critical metals projects.

Wood Minerals and Metals (Projects) is currently delivering critical metals projects (Battery and Magnet metals) all over the world, including Copper, Lithium, Vanadium, Rare Earths, and Base Metals projects.

As a key member of the team, duties will include (but not solely limited to):
  • Develop and maintain planning control structures are developed and maintained in alignment with approved project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
  • Develop and maintain baseline project plans and schedules using appropriate scheduling software
  • Monitor and control planning activities through all phases of project lifecycle
  • Liaise with engineering, procurement and construction functions, and others as required, including third parties, to maintain awareness of project activities, their status, and their impact on the project schedule and resourcing requirements
  • Prepare and provide copies of project plans and schedules in accordance with project reporting requirements
  • Produce and issue updates to project plans, schedules and resource requirements
  • Monitor overall project progress status, achievement of major milestones, and evaluate project performance in relation to planned performance
  • Liaise with cost discipline to ensure accurate and timely control and forecasting of man-hour budgets and ensure that the impact of all change requests are properly assessed and included in the schedules
  • Participate in Project Controls Compliance and Continuous Improvement Reviews
  • Assist and support in the mentoring of junior planning personnel


Skills / Qualifications

As the ideal candidate, Wood is looking for someone who has worked within a consultancy with exposure to multiple projects across the mining, oil & gas, and/or resources industries, with anywhere from 2 years of experience, up to 15 years. You will have relevant skills and attributes such as:
  • Relevant scheduling/planning experience within the resources sector on medium to large scale projects
  • Proficient knowledge of Project Execution Procedures for Scheduling
  • Proficient understanding of WBS & CBS structures and project reporting capabilities
  • Ability to prepare resource loading, progress and staffing plans
  • Proficient understanding of earned value application, cost and schedule variance analyses/trending and what-if scenarios
  • Detailed understanding of project management principles and techniques
  • Good understanding of Cost Management, Change Control, Planning & Risk Analysis & Management
  • Demonstrates commitment to Wood Values, Visions & Behaviours
  • Apply analytical and statistical evaluation
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, handling multiple tasks and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Use initiative, experience and a proactive approach to problem solving.
