Our Cadia site is located in Central West New South Wales, approximately 25 km outside the vibrant regional town of Orange and a three-hour drive from Sydney. Employees reside in the varied accommodation options in Orange, with the surrounding winery and national park areas to enjoy. Who are we looking for

Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, you will be accountable for operational activities within Newcrest Laboratory Services, including the application of advanced laboratory techniques in wet chemistry, sample preparation, fire assay and analytical instrumentation.

In addition, provide high quality, timely analytical services to the Newcrest Marketing team following safe, cost efficient and innovative processes. Newcrest Laboratory Services Orange also provides analytical services to all Newcrest sites using a range of techniques to analyse ores, concentrates and tailings.

You will support the production and sales teams with advanced instrument operation, equipment calibration, QAQC and project management as well as any other general operational tasks at the request of the Chemist and Laboratory Superintendent.

Key deliverables of the role include:
  • Support a positive safety culture by participating in Newsafe and utilising CHESS and CCM systems.
  • Build and maintain excellent working relationships within the Laboratory team as well as with external business partners, suppliers and laboratory customers.
  • Lead and support innovation in the laboratory with improvement ideas, experimental design and analytical testing
  • The application of advanced laboratory techniques in wet chemistry, sample preparation, and fire assay.
  • Undertake advanced instrument operation of AAS, ICPOES, ICPMS, Leco and XRF
  • Proactive problem solving in all areas of the laboratory while being productive and ensuring delivery of results in expected timeframes.
  • Statistical analysis of sales data to support reported results and proposed improvements.

Our ideal candidate will have laboratory experience, a strong drive and focus and has a desire to foster a long-term career in mining.

You will also have
  • Mining Industry Experience preferred.
  • At least 2-5 Years laboratory experience preferred.
  • Attention to detail, effective stakeholder communication and ability to plan and work autonomously.
  • Strong technical report writing and statistical analysis experience.
  • Chemistry related qualification highly regarded.
