Downer has been selected as preferred applicant to deliver Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP), the largest investment in new rollingstock in Queensland history. Design, build, and maintenance of 65 brand new trains, design and build of a train manufacturing facility on Fraser Coast of Queensland, design and build of a train depot and stabling yard, a huge boost to local manufacturing and supply chain.

Reporting directly to the Technical Director the System Design Assurance Manager is a project leadership position for a major rollingstock and infrastructure project in Queensland, Australia. This role will work with a key leadership team of 6 and manage up to a direct team of up to 12.

This high-profile role on a 7.1-billion-dollar project is responsible for ensuring the systems within QTMP which consist of; the train design, manufacturing facilities, maintenance facilities and Through Life Support (TLS) readiness are designed and constructed to ensure overall compliance. The System Design Assurance Manager will also evaluate the integration approach and design of each system. This role manages a team of qualified engineers that oversees the engineering design products delivered by sub-contractors of the project and ensures a fully integrated outcome. The System Design Assurance Manager controls resources and actively participates in performing governance and assurance tasks of our supply partners and provides guidance on key decisions concerning system compliance, design quality, client management and engineering compliance for the project.

Mature negotiation skills are required with associated cross functional engineering knowledge to ensure the project's safety, delivery timelines, costs and quality are maintained.

Experience
  • Must have 10 to 15 years' relevant experience in rollingstock or large infrastructure with rollingstock project delivery.
  • Strong experience in the design and construction of rollingstock and/or rail depot & manufacturing workstreams for a major infrastructure project.
  • Significant experience in the development and review of requirements including derived, safety and interface from development to system validation
  • Experience developing and being accountable for railway safety cases and associated safety documentation.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills with all stakeholders, including the ability to conduct detailed investigations and provide clear and decisive results and written reports.
  • Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) and eligible to be registered on Engineer's Australia National Engineering Register and relevant State Engineering Registers.
