Job Summary:

Reporting to the Business and Finance Director, the Senior Accountant is responsible for providing support to the finance and accounting of NewRange to ensure operational compliance to accounting standards, and risk mitigation in accordance with international financial, accounting, and reporting principals.

Overview:

Located in the historic iron range mining region of northeastern Minnesota, NewRange is a joint venture between Teck American Inc. (Teck) and PolyMet Mining Corp (PolyMet) that is advancing two major copper-nickel-platinum-palladium deposits, NorthMet and Mesaba. Project activities range from readying the feasibility stage NorthMet project for a production decision pending clearance of mine permits to advancing the nearby Mesaba project to pre-feasibility studies and permitting. NewRange is committed to unlocking a new domestic supply chain of critical metals for the transition to a low-carbon economy and positioning Minnesota as a world leader in sustainable mineral resource development.

Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, leading by example and fostering a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the common values on health, safety, environment, and communities shared by the asset owners.
  • Month-end, quarter-end, year-end close of general ledger.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, account reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Support the coordination and completion of annual audit, including preparation of workpapers and supporting analysis.
  • Research technical accounting issues applicable to the organization's financial statements and ensure compliance with international accounting principles (IFRS).
  • Revise and improve internal controls and other business processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of materials for the Finance & Audit Governance Committee and JV Parent Company accounting and consolidation teams.
  • Key resource for integrations and consolidations with JV Parent Company's general ledgers.
  • Analyze costs and recommend ways to reduce.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities; change agent.
  • Coordinate audits; provide support and ensure timely response to audit requests.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent field.
  • Minimum seven (7) years' related experience, including prior experience both preparing and reviewing financial statements, account reconciliations and journal entries.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP data management systems.
  • Computer skills, including MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Effectiveness in building working relationships and working in multi-disciplined teams, including the ability to influence outcomes.
  • Integrity and ability to lead by example.
  • Ability to work independently and productively in a fast-paced environment.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPA designation.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or mining environment.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Experience with SAP and integration tools.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical topics to a non-technical audience and stakeholders.
