Role: Manager - Finance & Accounts 

Location: Mutoshi (Kolwezi), Democratic Republic of the Congo 

You are required to manage the Finance Department by leading the effective management of organizational assets and liabilities, contribute to organisational profitability and sustainability, maintain, and enhance organisational development and growth, manage, and assess financial performance, develop and maintain stakeholder relationships, ensure legal and corporate governance compliance. 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY MISSION: 

  • Gather and analyse financial information for internal use. 
  • Prepare, on a timely basis, monthly management accounts and reports for departmental heads, EXCO and the Board; 
  • Provide leadership to the mine finance team to ensure the development of a working environment that is conducive to the achievement of department’s KPIs 
  • Provide training and development opportunities for employees to achieve their full potential by gaining new skills.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for optimizing the cost footprint while maximizing revenue potential. 
  • Lead the annual mine budget process and subsequent monitoring of actual costs against budget. 
  • Assume responsibility for compliance too and improvement in the Company’s approved accounting procedures 
  • Prepare cash and operational cost forecasts to assist with business planning and decision making 
  • Take responsibility, in coordination with other department heads, in identifying and mitigating against risks to the business 
  • Maintain insurance registers for the mine. 
  • Provide regular performance appraisals to the finance team to ensure optimum employee performance and identify and remedy substandard performance and behaviour. 
  • Ensure compliance and where required, improvement, in the policies and procedures in terms of accounting standards, tax laws and regulations and general internal controls. 
  • Participate in the mine senior management team to ensure that targets for resources exploitation, capital management, cost control, safe working, employee development, environmental management and corporate governance are achieved. 

SECONDARY MISSION: 

  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting of the operations, ensuring all transactions are managed in accordance with the Company’s defined governance policies and procedures. 
  • Ensure integrity of the accounting records through supervision of accounting staff and implementation of appropriate fit-for-purpose business processes 
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts for the operations and submit timely cash calls to head-office 
  • Oversee disbursement of payments in accordance with the Company’s delegation of authority. 
  • Liaise with the mine’s Procurement Manager in ensuring compliance with delegation of authority as it relates to initiation of contracts and reporting processes for the associated commitments. 
  • Liaise with the mine’s supply chain Manager to ensure adherence to the corporate accounting policies related to warehousing and inventory management to facilitate optimal deployment of the Company’s working capital. 
  • Involvement in defining business processes and workflows associated with the Company’s SAP system. 
  • Lead Internal and External Audit engagements, ensuring controls are in place to safeguard the company's assets. 
  • Working with the tax manager, ensure compliance to the tax regulatory framework on all tax matters. 
  • Interpret and apply key financial indicators to make better business decisions, using data to improve performance. 
  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Promote safety and ethical operations throughout their business dealings. 
  • Perform other duties or special assignments as required. 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: 

  • Degree in Accounting, CA/ICWA/CS/CIMA/ACCA  
  • Minimum 10-15 years of progressive experience, with experience in a managing role within an operating mining or heavy industrial company. 
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Power Pivot skills. 
  • Experience in the use of SAP system 
  • Team player with a service-delivery focus, good business acumen, ability to adapt to change in a growing company.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills and a strong attention to detail. 
  • Excellent organization and time management skills, critical thinking, and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks to meet both internal and external deadlines. 
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change and technological advancements. 
  • Candidates located within or willing to locate to the project region are strongly preferred.

Chemaf operates mechanised mines and state-of-the-art ore processing plants producing cobalt hydroxide and copper cathode in Etoile in Lubumbashi.

In the near future, we will also produce copper and cobalt from Mutoshi in Kolwezi. Our assets in the DRC include:

  • The Etoile mine and processing plant, Etoile phase II project plant expansion;
  • The Mutoshi mine and processing plant which is under construction; and
  • A significant portfolio of mining concessions.
