Senior Vehicle Consultant (Hatch Associates Consultants, Inc., Ambler, PA): Develop technical specifications for mechanical equipment or structures as related to materials standards, workmanship requirements, welding standards, and non-destructive testing. Review metallurgical and welding engineering documentation that are specialized in passenger rail vehicle fabrication. Deliver mechanical, structural, welding and related design submission, and prepare detailed and actionable comments of findings. Participate in formal design review meetings and technical working sessions. Conduct reviews of material and welding related documents, including certifications, test and inspections reports, weld procedures and qualification reports specifically prepared for rail vehicle structures. Conduct physical inspections and non-destructive testing of rail vehicle prototypes and first articles equipment. Lead failure investigation and root causes analysis studies and prepare client-ready reports on findings. Participate in quality assurance and manufacturing quality control audits. Witness mechanical equipment and structural components undergoing qualification testing, including shock and vibration, and environmental testing. Apply specialized rail vehicle engineering and project management techniques, as well as Hatch's proprietary quality assurance testing and inspection processes. Customize and apply Hatch's quality control and project requirements tracking software.

Full time employment, Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field, and 10 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience.

Of the required experience, must have 10 years of experience in each of the following:

• Applying knowledge of metallurgical engineering in stainless steel and aluminum to provide advice on welding design, specifications and technologies;
• Specification of materials, structural design and analysis, design of castings, fatigue assessment, fracture mechanics, forensics engineering, corrosion engineering, and non-destructive testing methods;
• Reviewing welding procedures and procedure qualification records in accordance with railway industry welding codes;
• Overseeing prototype and production welding to validate implementation and control of welding procedure parameters at manufacturer's facilities;
• Leading first part validating testing and inspections at vendor facilities, including reviewing for compliance against railway industry materials and welding standards;
• Developing recommendations for production process, quality improvements and the application of non-destructive testing methods to validate workmanship;
• Applying technical knowledge with the investigation of component failures from discovery to final determination of root cause and assist with report preparation; and
• Reviewing engineering documents (drawings, analyses, test procedures, test data) for the application and compliance railway industry specifications related to materials, joining (welding, fasteners), and fabrication control (material processing and QA).

Travel: International travel required up to 10%; Domestic travel required up to 40%.
