Hatch currently has an opportunity for a Senior Piping Designer to join our established team of professionals in Calgary. Hatch has challenging, ongoing career opportunities for experienced designers.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide leadership and technical guidance to intermediate and junior piping designers;
• Prepare clear, accurate drawings that require specialized knowledge and a high standard of design skills such as PFDs & P&IDs, Plot Plans/Equipment layout, GAs, and isometric drawings;
• Apply ASME, API, ANSI B31.3, B31.4, and B31.8 requirements and/or restrictions to the final design effort;
• Gather information from all sources required including other disciplines, vendors, engineers, reference drawings and catalogs to produce complete, functional, and constructible design packages and be able to construct scenarios from various information sources, consider alternatives, develop details and follow through with solid workable solutions for design problems;
• Assist in the review of vendor shop drawings and design drawings;
• Assist in the training and coaching of less experienced designers; and
• When necessary, conduct site/field visits and produce clear field reports with detailed sketches.

Skills and Experience
• Engineering design and drafting technology diploma or related technical diploma or certificate;
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant design/drafting experience including a strong working knowledge of discipline specific skills, codes, and standard practices;
• Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD, CADWorx, Microstation, OpenPlant and Navisworks;
• Extensive experience preparing P&IDs, piping plans and sections, GAs and piping isometric drawings;
• Able to produce complex design packages independently;
• Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment;
• Working knowledge of piping requirements for pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, furnaces and boilers, tanks and pressure vessels;
• Ability to effectively mentor and coach intermediate and junior designers; and
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to delegate tasks and recommend design/drawing improvements to others.
