Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Millwright will play a key role in repairing and maintaining site structures and equipment across the NewRange site.

To be successful, we're looking for a motivated teammate with strong communication skills who is comfortable performing maintenance tasks with limited direction. This role also requires the ability to perform labor intensive tasks and a willingness to work outside with the potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions.

Overview:

Located in the historic iron range mining region of northeastern Minnesota, NewRange is a joint venture between Teck American Inc. (Teck) and PolyMet Mining Corp (PolyMet) that is advancing two major copper-nickel-platinum-palladium deposits, NorthMet and Mesaba. Project activities range from readying the feasibility stage NorthMet project for a production decision pending clearance of mine permits to advancing the nearby Mesaba project to pre-feasibility studies and permitting. NewRange is committed to unlocking a new domestic supply chain of critical metals for the transition to a low-carbon economy and positioning Minnesota as a world leader in sustainable mineral resource development.

Responsibilities:

 

 

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Participate in property and departmental safety initiatives, some of which include High Potential Risk Assessments and Job Safety Observations.
  • Maintain tidy work areas, lockers, toolboxes, shops, and personnel accommodations
  • Accurate and timely record keeping including maintaining Maintenance Work Orders with specific details of time to complete work, key observations of the equipment, parts used, and those returned to inventory
  • Dismantle, troubleshoot, assemble, and install a variety of industrial equipment which may include several varieties of pumps, crushing and grinding machinery, conveyors, and numerous other ancillary equipment used in a mining and milling operation
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices, such as cranes, jacks, and tractors, to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up, and repair of machinery
  • Interact with a range of employees on the property such as engineering, trades and supervision on methods, procedures, and hazards to coordinate the services of other trades and service personnel in the planning of their portion of the job; prioritizing work daily utilizing the Maintenance Work Order System; estimating material costs and labor hours on jobs and troubleshooting plant equipment
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained and kept in a clean and orderly condition
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of environmental risks and hazards and comply with safety policies and procedures (Mine Safety & Health Administration), ensuring daily workplace inspections are done in order to accurately identify and correct workplace hazards
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 


Qualifications:

 

 

 

 

 

  • A Journeyperson Millwright certification or 10 or more years' of proven experience in heavy industrial maintenance which includes pumps, conveyors, welding, alignment, heavy rigging, compressors, crushers and sag and ball mills
  • A valid Minnesota driver license is required
  • Advanced knowledge working with engineered drawings
  • Advanced welding skills (GTAW, GMAW, FCAW)
  • Ability to adhere to high safety standards
  • A team player and able to communicate well with others
  • Highly motivated and have the ability to perform tasks with limited direction
  • Able to work outdoors with potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions
  • Able to perform labor intensive work when required
  • Basic computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft office applications
  • Ability to train and mentor apprentices
