Role

Under the direction of and reporting to the Sr. Project Director and the Vice President of Finance or equivalent of the company, the Project Controller will provide scheduling, estimating and cost engineering support to the Owners team staff as well as supervision of the Design Engineer's and Construction Manager's (EPCM) Project Control staff. The Project Controller (PC) will be required to produce a monthly project report that contains the analysis, bar charts, logic diagrams, and other graphs and lists that effectively communicate the plans, progress, and forecast of the overall project. The Project Controller should have an in-depth knowledge of both applicable software programs including SAP and principals of budgeting and cost engineering. The Project Controller will have responsibility for the overall project schedule and tracking of the project budget. This position requires experience in the heavy construction field, preferably chemical industry or mining, and knowledge of project management practices.

Responsibilities

•Provide project control support to the Owner's project management and corporate finance teams which includes project estimating, cost reporting, scheduling, task tracking, account reconciliation, project status reports and various other project related activities.

•Ability to supervise several direct staff reports in the performance of the Project Control department requirements.

•Validate reports and data prepared by the EPCM groups prior to submission; Closely monitor the progress of engineering and construction to ensure deliverables, productivity, expended hours, forecasts to go and resources employed, are accurately and realistically stated.

•Analyze, interpret and report financial, cost and schedule information including variances, trends, and irregularities; inform project management of potential problem areas and recommend solutions to cost and schedule impacts and delays.

•Collect project information, update, and produce monthly management reports that include Actual vs. Budget; Contingency usage; Dollars Committed; and Forecast.

•Review scope changes, trends and change notices initiated from the project and review their time and cost implications, including those initiated by the EPCM groups.

•Ability to work with the project staff to ensure the objectives of the project are timely met.

•Communicate status of cost and schedule trends, and objectives to project management.

•Oversight of the EPCM project controls personnel on the Master Project Schedule.

•Apply and maintain cost and schedule procedures.

•Evaluate and forecast costs and work progress.

•Create, review, and maintain project schedules to determine project sequences, lead times and progress.

•Ability to determine the cost of all engineering and construction activities including labor, equipment, and materials.

•Ability to manage multiple projects and interface with various Project Managers in an engineering office environment or construction field office.

•Demonstrate skills in handling assigned activities, teamwork, communications, and problem solving.

•Assist in controlling expenditures to allow projects activities to stay on schedule and on budget.

•Continually review project planning to improve the completion date of projects.

•Recommend changes to EPCM and Owner's Teamwork methodologies, including the review of contractor's work interface issues, as needed.

•Assist with the preparation of project weekly and monthly reports.

•Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

•Bachelor's Degree in engineering, construction management or related field.

•Financial acumen and knowledge of finance.

•Minimum of 7-10+ years' experience in cost control and scheduling in heavy construction, preferably in the chemical or mining industry.

•Familiar with all aspects of project engineering and project management

•Familiarity with a variety of construction concepts, practices, and procedures

•Hands-on experience with applicable software including SAP is required.

•Must be well organized and have the ability to plan complex engineering and construction projects.

•Strong aptitude for detail, accuracy, completeness and meeting deadlines and commitments with an ability to manage competing priorities.

•Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to represent the company and project team in a professional manner.

•Excellent computer skills, especially MS Office.

•Self-starter able to work independently and achieve goals.

•Travel between corporate office, engineering office and field construction office.
