Position Summary

Provide both short and long-term (life-of-mine) mine planning support relating to underground limestone mines in Martin Marietta's Central Division. This position will also be expected to hold regular and consistent planning meetings with diverse specialty support and management teams to meet projected production requirements. Successful candidate will also be expected to make frequent on-site visits to the mines to monitor and update mine plan progress and changes. Responsibilities also include management and support of outside consultants or other third parties when needed. This leader must possess a general understanding of geology, product qualities, ventilation, ground support, mining equipment, operations, and aggregate processing to effectively lead underground mine planning. In addition, this person must possess the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, as well as MSHA.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Operations Services, Operational Excellence, and Operations teams on issues critical to planning success and the business process; must be customer service oriented
  • Continually monitor and analyze progress toward operational objectives; provide constructive feedback and direction as necessary
  • Responsible for communication and coordination with operations managers, senior division management and corporate managers on planning and initiative status
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with all existing and new consultants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Experience with AutoCAD software and Carlson mine planning software is mandatory, and experience with Ventsim Software for ventilation is preferred. Experience with MS Project or other Gantt-chart type of software also preferred.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws/regulations and company policy concerning safety, environmental, EEO/AAP, and others
  • Respond appropriately and in a timely manner to issues as they arise
  • Hold and lead regular and consistent planning meetings to develop one-year, five-year, and life-of-mine plans to meet projected requirements. Planning meetings will consist of diverse management and specialty personnel teams.
  • Conduct frequent on-site visits to update and monitor mine plan progress, compile and distribute reports.
  • Assist with developing capital plans related to mine planning initiatives and participate in the capital planning process.
  • Provide recommendations and planning related to underground mine communications systems.
  • Work with District and location geology, quality control, and sales teams to understand and maintain involvement in QC related issues, as it pertains to mine planning.
  • Coordinate any underground mine surveying needs that may arise.
  • Develop short-term and long-term slurry storage plans for all underground mines.
  • Work with land management and geology teams to identify future reserves, landowners, and properties to acquire. Work with those teams to obtain all targeted future reserves.
  • Active participation in any and all safety initiatives including internal safety audits, MSHA compliance and issues, and mine rescue team support.

  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Suite and ability to learn new MM internal programs and systems as needed
  • Leader must be successfully able to communicate and manage project-related needs to cross-functional team members, (Geology, Land Management, Zoning, Sales, Finance, Safety) through project life-cycles.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in mining engineering, civil engineering, or geology required,; or equivalent experience required; PE license a plus
  • 3+ years of experience in mine planning or underground mining environment preferred.
  • Must be willing to travel to accommodate job requirements up to 50% of the time
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCad and Carlson Software required, knowledge of Ventsim Software preferred.
  • Basic understanding of geology, product qualities, ventilation, ground support, mining equipment, operations, and aggregate processing required to effectively lead underground planning.

Work Environment

This job operates frequently in a maintenance and operations environment in both underground and surface locations. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds from ground to waist, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination, manual dexterity, repetitive motion, standing, sitting (must be able to sit for extended periods of time up to 8 hours), walking, climbing stairs, bending and stooping, and the ability to drive.
