Globe 24-7 in partnership with Newcrest Mining, is working together to source experienced and qualified talent to join their Government Relations Department to support relationships with Newcrest Government stakeholders on the Lihir Project.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Superintendent - Government Liaison for a Residential position in Kavieng, New Ireland Province, PNG. Reporting to Newcrest PNG Country Manager, this position will provide strategic advice to the Department Manager on all Government Relations & Compliance Reporting that delivers efficient and effective relationship with Newcrest Government stakeholders on Lihir and Kavieng.

The role will have responsibility to:
  • Drive and influence proactive safety behaviours within workgroups through visible leadership.
  • Ensure all personnel, visitors and contractors comply with site and contractual HSE requirements and hold people accountable for adherence.
  • Manage people and work to develop, deliver and improve NML Government Relations strategies aligned with the Newcrest strategic direction and local requirement to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Manages delivery of planned engagement activities and programs in accordance with the approved NML Government Relations engagement Plan and support for relevant Mine Management Plan requirements
  • Manage and oversee Key Government, private sector and civil society engagements and relationships.
  • Use provided systems and processes to execute stakeholders' engagement activities to monitor stakeholder perceptions of NML PNG activities to provide data for strategy reviews and Government Relations Reporting.
  • Manages the processes required to analyse and respond to government stakeholder concerns, grievances, and queries.


Essential criteria
  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Sciences and Arts, stakeholder engagement, grievance management and community project planning and management.
  • PNG National Driver License
  • Embodies Newcrest's vision and values leading by example.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work constructively with a diverse group of people.



Desirable criteria
  • Post Graduate qualifications in Political Science, Economics, Social Planning, Public Administration, External Affairs, Community Development, or related field.
  • Demonstrate ability to be responsible for own safety as well as those of
  • Assimilates, applies, and imparts new job-related knowledge and skills received through feedback, exposure, coaching and formal training.



The Requirements

  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Ability to complete Police Character checks at interview stages.
  • Relevant or similar work experience.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
