Mine Planner/Mining Engineer

This position will be based in Charlotte, NC or Columbia, SC and cover mine planning for locations in NC, SC and GA.


Position Summary

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing support to East Division operations in mine planning. Working with Operations Services, Environmental, Land Management, Blasting and Geology teams to develop short, mid-range, and life of mine plans. Developing and monitoring grading projects for overburden removal, site preparation, and other earth works projects including short- and long-term storage needs.

  • Work closely with operations to develop and implement mine plans for crushed stone, dragline, sand, and gravel operations
  • Provide creative solutions to mine planning, overall site development and cost-effective options for operations management
  • This position reports to the Manager of Mine Planning for the East Division.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in mining, geological or civil engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in mine planning, preferably in aggregate mining
  • Experience in developing mine plans for surface mine operations
  • Experience with exploration drilling and geologic modeling

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience in mine planning utilizing Carlson or MAPTEK Mining software programs, experience with Carlson preferred
  • Knowledge in AutoCAD, GIS applications and Microsoft Office computer skills
  • Knowledge and experience with Stonemont, Plant Flow, and/or Aggflow software a plus
  • Superb time management and judgement skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including report writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills; self-motivated with ability to work productively in both individual and group settings
  • Through strategic thinking, manage and create easy to follow plans to guide both mining team and site for planning and development
  • Project management and practical application experience; experience in capital project support and/or management
  • Regular travel to operations required to assist the operations teams in achieving established goals. Out of town travel required.
