Martin Marietta is seeking a Mine Planner/Engineer. This role will report to Corporate's Manager of Mine Planning and support planning activities within the Southwest Division's Southern Region.

Position will be based in San Antonio, TX and will require regular travel.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform and/or support mine planning for open pit and sand and gravel operations
  • Lead continuous improvement in mine planning through the development and maintenance of standards and best practices
  • Work with management and mine planning staff to develop short, mid-range, and life-of-mine plans for operating quarries and mines
  • Work with exploration and geology groups to develop exploration plans and geologic models
  • Review site grading, development, and reclamation plans
  • Champion Operational Excellence initiatives
  • Provide creative solutions to mine planning, overall site development, and cost-effective options for operations management


Minimum Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in mining, geological or civil engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in mine planning, preferably in aggregate mining
  • Experience in developing mine plans for surface and underground operations
  • Experience with exploration drilling and geologic modeling


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong commitment to leadership in the Company's world-class safety culture
  • Experience in mine planning utilizing Carlson, GEOVIA, and/or MAPTEK Mining software programs; experience with Carlson preferred
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS applications, and Microsoft Office computer skills
  • Knowledge and experience with Stonemont, Plant Flow, and/or Aggflow software a plus
  • Superb time management and judgment skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including report writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills; self-motivated with the ability to work productively in both individual and group settings
  • Through strategic thinking, manage and create easy-to-follow plans to guide site planning and development
  • Project management and practical application experience; experience in capital project support and/or management
  • Out-of-town travel required
Physical Requirements
Physical requirements include lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds from ground to waist is required, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate P.C., telephone and other office equipment, repetitive motion, standing, sitting (must be able to set for extended periods of time up to 8 hours), walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving, client/customer contact, squatting to perform the essential functions.

Working Conditions

Time will be split in office-style setting and outside, which ill require periods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold, wet, dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 90 dbs.
