Position Overview

The Power Line Worker Apprenticeship Program Instructor is responsible for providing classroom instruction, distance learning instruction, field instruction and practical shop experience to prepare students for employment in as a power line worker. The instructor will teach all four levels of NCCER Power Line Worker courses related to the skills used in power delivery (transmission and substation) settings. The instructor may also help develop and deliver other relevant craft training topics and offerings (i.e., Kiewit specific methods for Power Line Work, Safety inspection and Safety training, Post-apprentice training topics) #LI-WJ1

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the NCCER Core curriculum to provide and support classroom instruction, applying innovative, effective, and equitable teaching techniques.
  • Deliver curriculum through various modes of instruction, i.e. face to face, compressed video, and/or hybrid.
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course outcomes within the NCCER content and procedures.
  • Review, evaluate, recommend, and effectively use student learning materials
  • Provide students with a written and accessible course syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines and facilitates a clear understanding between student and instructor of the content, goals, requirements, expectations, evaluation methods and schedule of work.
  • Adhere to NCCER policies and procedures.
  • Participate in recruitment and outreach community events.
  • Attend seminars, special conference and professional development meetings as time and budget permit.
  • Ensure facilities/labs are safe and adequate for training.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning.
  • Assist with marketing programs and recruiting students.
  • Maintain professional standards of competence in the discipline and teaching methodology through professional development/engagement activities.
  • Comply with all applicable occupational health, safety and environmental laws and regulations.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work as well as overnight travel may be required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in scheduled activities which include kickoff and graduation ceremonies.
  • Participate in department, district, and facility meetings.
  • Participate in activities required to maintain program and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in the planning process by assisting in the formulation of goals and objectives and budget priorities.
  • Meet professional assignments in accordance with the calendar.
  • Participate in business and/or community activities that promote the mission of the apprenticeship.


Qualifications

  • Successful trade teaching experience is required.
  • Successful experience utilizing instructional technologies, including computers, internet resources and other appropriate media in instruction.
  • A minimum of five years' work experience as a journey or technician-level in area of expertise or a minimum of three years as a certified teacher in a vocational/technical construction or maintenance-related training program.
  • Ability to plan course instruction based upon approved syllabus/outline provided to insure course content and objectives are met.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles of students.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and methods which enhance student success.
  • Basic computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Associate degree in electrical, construction or related field preferred
  • Experience instructing trade apprentices in a professional setting
  • NCCER Certified Instructor Training in Power Line Worker or Electrician preferred
  • Experience teaching online courses and/or documented successful training in an online learning management system (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas, TEAMS/ZOOM)
  • Relevant Power Industry related Certifications a plus
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed for the business (25%)

Base Compensation: $101,633 - $155,358
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
